Emerald Glen Farm is looking for a ranch hand/ property manager for a 50 acre farm, located in the Cascade foothills. This is a full time job and is available now.

Duties and responsibilities primarily include grounds and property maintenance, maintenance of pastures and barns, and occasional care of farm animals including 12 horses, a small flock of sheep , alpacas, and a donkey. Ability to operate and maintain farm machinery including tractor, baler and other haying implements and additional farm vehicles strongly favored. Handyman duties such as fence building and repair, barn and outbuilding maintenance, mowing, and blackberry and thistle control are recurring tasks. Must have sufficient animal background to manage occasional feeding, stall cleaning and turn out of horses, including stallions.

A ranch hand should be comfortable working alone on a farm and around farm equipment. Knowledge of mechanics is necessary, as ranch hands frequently have to make small repairs to equipment. A potential ranch hand also must possess handyman skills — knowing how to build or fix a fence and maintain facilities is important. Along with a valid driver’s license, a ranch hand also needs to have physical strength. The job is taxing, and a ranch hand works no matter what the weather’s like.

Here is a partial list of the tasks a versatile ranch hand should be able to perform:

• Weed control and managing the pastures
• Prep haying equipment, bale and stack local hay
• Machine operation and mechanical work on machines
• Trash collection and disposal
• Clean and store equipment
• Build and repair fencing
• Vehicle maintenance and minor repair
• Mowing grounds
• Tree and shrub maintenance
• Drainage ditch maintenance

If you are interested, please send a cover letter indicating why you would be ideal for the job, a current resume, and references to [email protected]. Pay starts at $15/hr. DOE.
