Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ranch Hand Duties

The candidate must possess a valid driver’s license, clean driving record and a strong customer oriented attitude. The Ranch Hand, in essence, keeps all facilities running smoothly. This position is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and continued improvements of the facility as well as preventative maintenance of the vehicles and equipment. The position requires very comprehensive skills with an excellent knowledge of water systems as well as electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.

• Perform regular ranching duties such as: fencing, irrigation, moving cattle, operating farm machinery, etc.
• Mechanical / Electrical / Carpentry
• Support Ranch Manager is continuous improvement of facilities and land.
• Work with the Ranch Manager and Land Owner to determine land area focus.
• Assess any significant changes in the water quality, properties of ponds, reservoirs and streams.
• Assess the plant communities and propose potential plant communicates for rangeland units on the ranch.
• Assess the land for any infestation of invasive species.
• Integrate best management practices in minimize adverse implant of plant species on the ranch.
• Monitor and/or increase abundance and distribution of key plant species for forage or ground cover or that are sensitive to livestock management.

Carbon / Sustainability Duties

All phases of ranch work will be performed as well as project plan and implementation of Carbon Ranching best practices. The Carbon Ranching Ranch Hand will lead the efforts to assess, design and implement sustainability projects for Cabin Creek Ranch and then monitor these projects, adjust the processes as needed and measure the effectiveness. The focus will be on continuous improvements on the Ranch.

• Retain up-to-date soil maps and aerial photography.
• Assess opportunities and challenges to the land area.
• Recommend and implement changes to improve processes and reduce cost.
• Design a plan to for projects for sustainability.
• Focus on sequestration of CO2.
• Implement sustainability projects and measure their effectiveness.
• Work cooperatively with conservation groups on programs or activities that affect the ranch.
• Interact with local representatives of agencies who can provide resources and knowledge such as: NRCS, U.S. Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service.
• Assess areas within fields or pastures where soils appear to be limiting productivity or grazing.
• Evaluate soil characteristics of the ranch which will include the systematic sampling of soil and accurately recording the sample details for the proper analysis.
• Mitigate soil erosion and barren soil areas.
• Develop and organize educational workshops, ranch tours and field days to promote soil health and regenerative ranching practices.
• Work with Global Sustainability Manager to refine Sustainability Criteria.
• Review and approve certification applications.
• Coordinate the Company’s Soil Carbon Project to accurately account for and carbon offset payments for sequestering carbon.
• Communicate carbon sequestration methods through meetings, workshops, newsletters. This may require travel to Audia Group locations as well as Customers.
• Interface with consultants and carbon credit brokers.
• Coordinate rancher compliance with soil carbon protocols.
• Coordinate carbon project monitoring.
• Conduct strategic research and stay abreast of trends.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

B.S. degree in Environmental Science or related field is preferred.
5+ years of working in a ranching environment is required.
Certification in pesticides a plus, will be required learning if the candidate does not have certification.
Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Demonstrated experience managing projects.
Good listening and communication skills.
A self-starter with resourceful thinking.
Safety focused.
A background in animal husbandry is required.
Cattle experience is required.
Pasture experience (Holistic Management knowledge a plus)
Equipment and maintenance knowledge / mechanical, electrical aptitude
Solid communication and analytical skills
