The Wrangler Director is to be a crucial member of the Camp Carson team. Direct and manage the barn and staff to ensure successful summer.

Maintain all daily horse barn needs including but not limited to grooming, bridling, saddling, watering, and feeding. Organizes all barn needs for safe and reasonable horse rides to campers of all ages. Over-see all actions by communicating clearly with, and delegating responsibilities to all Barn Staff and other staff assigned to the barn. Keeps the horse barn, trails, fields, and stalls safe and clean for horses and campers. Organizes daily, weekly, and monthly upkeep of herd. Able to lead trail rides for all levels including rides that offer trotting and cantering.

Qualifications
Minimum of 21 years of age
Minimum of rising sophomore in college
Current First Aid and CPR
Current Certification with the CHA/HAS or related experience
Supervisory Experience
Computer skills, including Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Salary – $250.00 per week plus room and board, meals, and potential succesful summer completion incentive.

Essential Functions

1) Assist in pre-camp set up of barn

2) Assist in pre-camp evaluation of horses

3) Schedule staff, campers, and horses of riding program

4) Perform daily visual observation of all Barn Staff

5) Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment

6) Supervise and evaluate Barn staff three times a season (pre-season, mid-season and post)

7) Supervise care and health of horses

8) Develop and maintain a Wrangler Program Manual

9) Assist in opening/closing day activities as needed

10) Assist with staff training

11) Assist as needed with organization and supervision of the Camp Carson Awards Program

12) Assist in planning and organizing closing banquet for staff

13) Assist in Evening Programs

14) Supervise campers during Free Time.

15) Participate in the Office of the Day

16) Conduct announcements during meal times

17) Assist with morning chapel

18) Participate in performing nightly bed checks of campers and staff

19) Attend all staff meetings

20) Assume additional responsibilities as directed by camp directors

21) Complete and maintain on an ongoing basis the designated areas for accreditation with the American Camp Association.

22) Strive to ensure the wrangler program is safe, fun, challenging, and promote youth development and skill progression.

23) Effectively manage designated financial responsibilities as they relate to the Wrangler program budget.

24) Must be committed to carrying out the basic team purpose of Camp Carson and the YMCA of Southwestern Indiana.

25) Ability to serve and respond in a positive, respectful, timely, caring manner to a diverse background of user groups.
