Position: Experienced Working Ranch Manager (and/or Couple Welcome)
Location: Central Montana, Lewistown | 10,500-acre Private Ranch
We are seeking a versatile, experienced, and hands-on Ranch Manager (couple or family welcomed) to oversee and manage the daily operations of a 10,500-acre private ranch in Central Montana, located near Lewistown. This is an opportunity to live and work on a stunning property where you’ll play a vital role in both the daily ranch functions and long-term planning in collaboration with the owners.
Ranch Operations & Property Maintenance:
- Maintain and repair ranch infrastructure, including roads, fencing, buildings, and water systems.
- Oversee equipment, vehicles, and machinery to ensure everything is in top working order.
- Coordinate seasonal tasks such as planting, irrigation, haying, and snow removal.
- Ensure all physical assets of the ranch are kept clean, safe, and ready for use.
Management & Communication:
- Act as the “boots on the ground” and point of contact for all on-site operations.
- Communicate regularly with the owners regarding ranch plans, budgets, and priorities.
- Assist with implementing long-term strategies for property improvements and sustainability.
- Provide a welcoming, professional presence when owners or guests are on-site.
Administration & Inventory:
- Order and track supplies, feed, tools, and parts while staying within budget.
- Keep accurate records of expenses, projects, and equipment maintenance.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience managing a working ranch, with skills in both operations and maintenance.
- Proficient in operating and maintaining ranch equipment and vehicles.
- Self-motivated, physically capable, and comfortable in a remote setting.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or as a team.
- Experience with livestock and land stewardship practices preferred.
- A genuine love of the rural lifestyle and long-term commitment to the land.
The Ranch Manager will maintain wildlife feed plots to support overall habitat and land stewardship goals, including planting seasonal forage, managing irrigation, and monitoring conditions for ongoing improvement.
