The Backwoods Farmstead
Large family farm in the mountains of Tennessee hiring. Looking for someone who enjoys all aspects of farming from animals to gardens. We are a large and diverse farm that follows regenerative practices with our animals and pastures. The right candidate will be comfortable with all farm animals. Loading, moving pastures in trailers and birthing. Their care is our top priority. Must be comfortable installing fencing, using heavy equipment and have an understanding of farm working days. No job is insignificant. We keep a clean and organized farm. Weekends off except for animal care. Shared staff housing with communal spaces. We are looking for someone who is interested in a long term position. Our farm is growing and we need a solid crew to make that happen. This is not a cowboy operation. This is farming.
A typical day starts with feeding and watering the animals, milking, egg collecting and checking the gardens and greenhouses. Daily projects could be anything from tree removal, working in the orchard to moving animals in pastures to fixing farm equipment. We keep clean and organized barns. And stay on top of feed inventory along with any other animal needs that come across such as sheep shearing or mucking out barns. The weed eater will be your best friend in the summer. We have a massive garden that we run a CSA out of.
This job is for someone that does not like to be micro managed and is very goal oriented. You must be strong and healthy. Enjoy being outside. We have tons of hills, moving feed and animals along with all the daily maintenance of the farm. If you tell me what you are working on that day I will trust it is done. Your word is everything out here. Animals depend on you.
