
Fort Worth Horseshoe Club
We are looking for a full-time Barn Manager for our private equine boarding facility. First and foremost, the Barn Manager’s top priority is the proper care and maintenance of the member’s horses. This requires someone with extensive horse knowledge – equine feed and nutrition, basic medical treatments and first aid, and equine behaviors. In addition, the Barn Manager is expected to deliver exceptional customer experience to our members, and is responsible for keeping the facility maintained in a safe and inviting manner.
This position may include irregular hours, such as evenings, weekends, and holidays to care for sick or injured horses or perform the responsibilities outlined below.
Compensation package includes salary, vehicle allowance, paid housing & utilities (3 bedroom house), and paid board for 1 horse.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years employment experience caring for horses or working at a stable, ranch, or boarding facility.
- Minimum of 2 years employment experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive a truck, truck with horse trailer, and farm equipment.
- Verification to work in the US.
- Must consent to a background check.
What You’ll Do:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the club and daily care of horses (feed, water, stalls, supplements, turnout, etc.)
- Manage a team of 3 – 5 hourly employees, including hiring, scheduling, training, and supervising their work
- Interact with members and employees in a positive and professional manner
- Assist with maintenance and repairs of buildings, arenas, grounds, and equipment
- Recognize, assess, treat and monitor a variety of equine injuries; provide basic Equine First Aid including shots, wraps and other requirements
- Handle emergency vet care, including the transport of a horse to an emergency care facility, if needed
- Attend Board meetings and provide facility updates to the Board of Directors
- Order supplies and feed for horses
- Oversee any vendor or contract services for the facility
- Demonstrate basic bookkeeping and basic computer proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
- Maintain records, included but not limited to employee records, payroll, equine medical records, member contact information and vendor information
- Operate tractor and farm equipment, including driving a truck and horse trailer
What You’ll Need to be successful in this job:
- Interpersonal skills: The Barn Manager must have excellent interpersonal skills, as they interact professionally with owners, employees, vendors and equine personnel on a regular basis. This individual needs to be an effective communicator with the ability to listen to and work with others, and to deal with any conflict or problems should they arise.
- Mechanically inclined: Skill with basic tools and repair equipment and knowledge of basic mechanical maintenance and repair is highly desirable. Carpentry, plumbing, mechanical and welding experience is a plus.
- Physical and mental stamina: Barn Manager may need to lift, fix, or manipulate heavy equipment or machinery. Horses that are sick or injured will need care to help them which may involve handling high-energy horses of 1200 pounds or more, and assisting with veterinary care. Barn Manager will need to load or carry feed and hay bales for short distances (must be able to lift up to 50 pounds). This role requires working in all weather conditions
- Business management skills: A barn manager must be proficient at record-keeping, payroll, and inventory management, as well as handling and scheduling events, supervising employees, and overseeing the upkeep of the property. In addition, excellent organization skills and attention to detail are a must.
- Dedication: Barn management is not a 9-5 job. It can often mean long hours and 24/7 availability should a problem or emergency arise. Dedication to the job and to the horses is a key to success as a great Barn Manager.
