In search of a trustworthy and motivated individual to help a family owned cattle ranch with daily and seasonal operations. Must have the ability to work well in high stress situations with little to no direction. Preferred experience in all forage haying operations and calving. Nice rural location at the base of the Highwood Mountains only 45 miles East of Great Falls with long term opportunities.

- No preference on marital status or family. Small family preferred due to small housing (2 bedroom, 1 bath, unfinished basement)
- Days and time off are dependent on seasonal work as long as planned ahead of time and coordinated with owners & other employees
- Compensation dependent on experience
Housing, internet, beef, pork and work pick up will be provided by the ranch. May bring 1-2 horses (no brood mares or studs!) that are current on all annual vaccinations, worming and well mannered pets who are respectful towards all livestock and other cats and dogs. This is not a full-time cowboy job; it’s an all-around ranching job.
Job Description:
Assist and responsible for daily and seasonal tasks that pertain to the Ranch:
- All aspects of calving/doctoring practices. Main priority!
- Make sure all equipment and machinery are in good repair and maintained properly.
- Ability to use ATVs and/or horses to work cattle.
- Feeding and tending all Ranch livestock including cattle, horses, and poultry.
- Ranch repairs and maintenance including fencing (flat land and rugged mountains), livestock water, and roads.
- Cleaning, waste/manure removal and management
- Participate in all farming practices and tasks including chemical spraying, haying and hay bale removal, plowing, prescribed burns, etc.
- Occasional yard and landscaping work
- Ability to work long hours (night and daytime) as needed during calving and haying season
- Hospitality and housing upkeep assistance during hunting season with house and cabin rentals in the mountains
Qualifications:
- Ability to lift over 50+ pounds
- Versatility, integrity, and honesty are key qualifications.
- Must be detail oriented, especially pertaining to health checking cattle
- High level of organization for record keeping purposes
- Ability to handle preventative maintenance and kind of a “jack-of-all-trades”
- Good at communicating, following directions, and keeping on task
- Must be able to multitask, self-starter, and work well in high stress situations with little to no direction.
- Knowledgeable and/or willing to learn about all calving/doctoring practices and duties in order to work independently.
- Preferred hay production experience; familiarity running a round baler and maintenance of haying equipment a plus

Equipment: John Deere tractors (large & small), large round balers, small square balers, self propelled swather, hay rake, trucks, 4 wheelers, side by side, backhoe, MANUAL pickups w/ bale bed, conventional & air drills
Livestock: Angus cattle, horses & chickens
