Location: Stettler County, Alberta
Compensation: Approx. $69,000/year CAN
We are seeking a reliable, experienced, and self-motivated ranch hand to join our operation full-time. This role involves hands-on responsibilities across all areas of ranch and farm work. The right candidate must be capable of working independently in a rural setting and available for irregular hours including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergencies while living in on-site housing.
Compensation Package
Hourly Rate: $23/hour

Job Duties
Livestock & Animal Care
- Daily feeding, calving/foaling, breeding, doctoring, rotating for cattle and horses
- Branding, buying/selling, hauling and livestock record-keeping
- Any other animal related care and husbandry as required
Crop, Hay & Land Operations
- Seeding, swathing, raking, baling, and stacking hay
- Planting and maintaining food plots: fencing, disking, seeding, and rolling
- Fencing and gate maintenance (barbed wire, electric, and rail)
Equipment & Facility Maintenance
- Routine inspection and maintenance of farm equipment, vehicles, buildings and infrastructure
- Yard and landscaping: mowing, snow removal, pruning, weed spraying etc.
- Shop and Quonset cleaning and organization
- Cleaning and upkeep of grain bins, garden areas, barns, and structures
- Supervise and coordinate contractors, land users, vets, farriers, etc.
Wildlife & Property Management
- Pest control: poisoning, snaring, and/or shooting
- Perimeter fence and hunting blind maintenance
- Pond landscaping and fish stocking
- Maintain and clean farmhouses
- Demolition and cleanup of old farm buildings and equipment
Administrative Duties
- Maintain weekly log of hours and duties (included with each invoice)
- Keep updated inventories, service records, and other paperwork in order
- Manage own work schedule while meeting all ranch responsibilities
Requirements
- Prior experience in ranching/farming
- Ability to live and work independently in a remote rural setting
- Proficient with hand/power tools and farm equipment
- Experience with tractors and agricultural implements
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry
- Physically fit (must lift up to 50 lbs and work in various weather conditions)
- Strong initiative, communication, adaptability, and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver’s license, own transportation, legally able to work in Canada
- Criminal record check required
Work Schedule
- Summer (May 1 – Sept 30): Minimum 40 hours/week
- Winter (Oct 1 – April 30): Daily livestock feeding
- Flexible hours based on ranch needs – not a traditional 9–5 role
- Winter Leave: Written request required with 3 weeks’ notice (Oct 1 – Apr 30)
Housing
- Private on-site accommodation tied to the contract
- Suitable for individuals, couples, or families
- Lease subject to the Alberta Residential Tenancies Act
- Included Costs: Propane and housing ($1,500/month value)
- Employee-Paid Costs: Electricity, internet, phone
About Us
We are a husband-and-wife operation located on 6,000 acres of beautiful mixed prairie and badlands surrounding the Battle River Valley. Our ranch includes:
- A growing herd of ~50 commercial Angus cows
- A small horse breeding program with 4 mares and a stallion
- Hundreds of acres transitioning into hay
- Plans for a small hunting outfit with wildlife conservation in mind
We are looking for someone who can help us care for our land, animals, and property with pride and independence, and who can also maintain operations during our absences. This position offers varied and meaningful work alongside us in a unique and scenic setting.
