Commitment: Minimum through December 2025, with the possibility of extension

Compensation: $3,000/month + housing and utilities

Position Overview

New Masters Village—a working art village and cultural retreat center—seeks a hands-on, dependable Ranch & Property Assistant to care for our small herd of horses and help maintain the property. This is a live-on-site position supporting both our equine program and general property operations. You will work under the direction of our Property Manager, Walker Franklin.

The ideal candidate is comfortable with horses, willing to pitch in on a variety of maintenance and hospitality tasks, and able to thrive in a close-knit, creative community.

Key Responsibilities

Equine Care & Program Support

  • Daily care and feeding of 6–8 horses, including grooming, catching, stable maintenance and monitoring health
  • Tack care and basic equipment upkeep
  • Leading up to two 1.5-hour guided trail rides for guests during retreats and stays
  • Bringing horses out and handling them during up to two live horse drawing sessions per guest program
  • Working closely with the Property Manager to ensure horses are safe, healthy, and well-presented for all guest activities

Property Maintenance & Guest Support

  • Assisting with general labor and upkeep, including light carpentry, garden irrigation, landscaping, and small repairs
  • Helping with cabin turnover between guest visits, including cleaning, restocking, and light staging
  • Supporting seasonal projects such as trail clearing, firewood prep, or winterization
  • Ensuring guest-facing areas are tidy, safe, and welcoming

Qualifications

  • Experience caring for and handling horses; confident with basic groundwork and safe riding practices, ability to lead another horse on a lead rope while trail riding
  • Ability to lead beginner riders and communicate clearly with guests
  • General handyman or maintenance skills; ability to operate basic tools safely
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and terrain
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and willing to help in multiple areas as needed
  • Must be able to live on-site and work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings during guest programs

Bonus Opportunity

  • There will be a $200 cash bonus if you can provide a well trained, beginner friendly, and trail ready horse which can be used during the season. 
  • Feed, pasture, and care provided for said horse/horses.
