An Assistant Cattle Manager plays a key support role in the day-to-day operations of Wilson Creek Cattle Feeders:
Job Summary:
The Assistant Cattle Manager works closely with the Cattle Manager to oversee the health, welfare, and productivity of Wilson Creek. This role involves hands-on animal husbandry, record-keeping, shipping/receiving, processing incoming and outgoing cattle and other duties assigned by the cattle manager. The Assistant Manager helps ensure smooth operations and contributes to long-term herd health and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Herd Management:
Assist in monitoring the health and behavior of cattle, identifying signs of illness or distress, and administering medications or treatments as directed. - Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate records of animals received/shipped, treatments, vaccinations, and movement for compliance and herd tracking. - Staff Supervision:
Help train and oversee pen riders/cattle crew under the direction of the manager. - Animal Welfare & Compliance:
Ensure that cattle handling and facility conditions meet animal welfare standards and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with cattle or in livestock production
- Knowledge of animal health, nutrition, and behavior
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Physically fit and able to work in varying weather conditions
- Record-keeping or basic computer skills are a plus
- Good Stockmanship
- Cattle handling skills
Reports To:
Cattle Manager
Work Environment:
Outdoor, physical, hands-on, often in rural or remote settings. Hours may be irregular and include early mornings, weekends, and on-call availability.

Required Licenses or Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license required
- Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
