Lake of the Woods/Greenwoods Camps, a premier co-ed sleep-away camp for children ages 6-15, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Horseback Riding Director and Barn Manager for our equestrian program. This seasonal, residential position runs from early June to mid August 2026, offering the opportunity to lead an established riding program.
Riding Director oversees a team of 6 English and Western riding instructors, ensuring both excellent camper instruction, a safe program, wonderful animal care and proper daily barn operations. You’ll guide approximately 60 eager campers of varying skill levels, from beginners to advanced – including those capable of jumping small courses, while managing staff schedules and horse care.
Responsibilities:
Teaching the basics of riding. Instructing riders in walk, trot, canter, and introductory jumping techniques. Overseeing our optional riding program (multiple campers multiple weekly sessions). Planning special events to include: intramural riding show, gymkhana, etc. Supervising and mentoring instructors. Coordinating daily barn operations and maintenance, ensuring the safety and well-being of all horses/animals. Also maintaining equipment and facility standards and developing curriculum and program structure. Additionally, ordering feed and hay, coordinating vet and farrier care, and scheduling leased horse transportation.
16 horses, three large riding rings, trails, turnout paddocks, 4 stall barn with 12 tie-ups, office, tack room, 6 additional small animals for petting zoo (goats, calf, sheep, chicks)
Salary Range:
$5,000 – $7,500 based on experience
