The Flying E Ranch
The Barn Manager is responsible for the daily operation of the barn, horse care program, arena facilities, and livestock operations. This position ensures the health and well-being of all horses, maintains a clean and safe facility, supervises barn staff and volunteers, coordinates equestrian activities, and provides excellent customer service to boarders and guests.
Essential Responsibilities
Horse Care
- Oversee daily feeding and watering schedules
- Monitor horse health and wellness
- Coordinate veterinary, farrier, dental, and chiropractic appointments
- Administer medications and basic first aid as directed
- Develop individualized care plans for horses
- Maintain health and vaccination records
Barn Operations
- Ensure stalls, paddocks, and arenas are clean and properly maintained
- Manage manure removal and waste disposal
- Monitor fencing, gates, water systems, and equipment
- Maintain feed inventory and order supplies
- Ensure compliance with safety standards
Staff Management
- Supervise barn hands and stable staff
- Develop daily work schedules
- Train employees in horse handling and safety procedures
- Conduct performance evaluations
- Enforce ranch policies and procedures
- Event Support
- Ensure facilities remain clean throughout events
Customer Relations
- Communicate with horse owners and boarders
- Resolve customer concerns professionally
- Welcome guests and provide facility orientation
Safety
- Enforce horse handling safety protocols
- Maintain first aid supplies
- Report accidents or injuries promptly
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of horse management experience
- Strong knowledge of equine nutrition, health, and behavior
- Experience supervising employees
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred
- Valid driver’s license
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 75 pounds regularly
- Walk, bend, stoop, and climb throughout the day
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ride horses when necessary
- Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
Preferred Experience
- Ranch or boarding facility management
- Rodeo or western event operations
- Hospitality or guest services
