Vera Earl Ranch - Sonoita
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented team member for a dual-role Barn Staff & Property Maintenance position. The primary focus is providing high-quality daily care for our equine herd and responsibilities in ranch and barn maintenance, equipment upkeep, and groundskeeping. This position requires daily care of horses of various ages, ranging from young stock to active working and performance horses. Daily duties include mucking and cleaning roughly 20 stalls, cleaning waters, barn cleaning and maintenance, fence and infrastructure repair, feeding, and wellness checks. This position may occasionally assist in the in the grow yard.
About the Vera Earl Ranch
Vera Earl (encompassing Vera Earl Ranch and Vera Earl Performance Horses) is a historic, family-owned working cattle ranch and performance horse operation. In this role, you will play an integral part in supporting our equine program and maintaining the operational standards of our ranch.
Equine Care Responsibilities
- Provide daily care for a herd of horses across various age groups.
- Muck and clean approximately 20 stalls daily, along with maintaining clean pens, runs, and water troughs.
- Feed hay and accurately prepare and administer specialized supplements according to individual feeding schedules.
- Safely handle horses during turnouts and routine care.
- Conduct daily general wellness checks to monitor horse health, physical condition, and behavior.
- Safely operate farm vehicles and utility equipment for feeding, hauling, and stall maintenance.
- Maintain fences, both barb and pipe, gates, plumbing and electrical around the barn and grow yard.
- Maintain clear, prompt communication with the supervisor regarding animal health, inventory, or facility needs.
Property Maintenance Secondary Responsibilities
- Execute general groundskeeping and landscaping across the property.
- Perform basic property repairs on fences, gates, barns, and outer structures.
- Complete light vehicle and equipment maintenance (e.g., checking fluids, tire pressure, and basic upkeep).
Qualifications & Requirements
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must have experience handling horses.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without current or future employer sponsorship.
- Professional fluency in spoken and written English.
- Strong reliability, punctuality, and work ethic.
- Ability to perform physical labor and work outdoors in all weather conditions, including inclement weather.
Position Details & Compensation
- Type: Full-Time
- Full-Time Benefits: Employee-paid health and dental insurance, Paid Time Off (PTO), Store credit and discounts at the VEPB Store.
- Livestock requires 365-day care. Weekends, holidays, or early morning shifts are mandatory.
- Housing: On-site housing or a housing stipend is negotiable for qualified candidates.
