Our family is looking for a Ranch Manager to manage the day-to-day operations of our private 10,000 acre ranch near Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The ranch is a peaceful nature retreat for our family. There is an 8,000-acre nature reserve, plus a 2,000-acre bison facility with 150 animals. The ranch buildings consist of several adobe cottages, the hay barn and the maintenance shop. There are also two irrigation systems and a solar electric system.

This is an excellent opportunity for a self-sufficient, highly practical individual or couple who are looking to live on a beautiful and remote nature reserve long term. Housing will be provided plus use of a vehicle for local journeys. Competitive compensation will be provided, ideally on a self-employed basis.

The Ranch Manager will oversee complete management of the ranch and the wildlife of the property. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Maintenance of the nature reserve
• Maintain the nature reserve and encourage the local wildlife population
• Enhance the reserve’s overall health
• Maintain the adobe cottages, outbuildings and fences
• Maintain the gardens around the cottages
• Find and manage contractors for large or specialized maintenance projects

Care of the bison
• Manage and maintain the bison facility incl. buildings, fences etc
• Feed, water and ensure the health of the animals
• Manage the breeding program
• Maintain pasture

Mechanical maintenance
• Maintain vehicles (trucks and tractors)
• Maintain water systems (2 x irrigation pump systems)
• Maintain the solar electric system

Liaison with local town administration
• Manage water rights
• Manage the payment of taxes and leases etc
• (Occasionally) manage the buying and selling of small plots of land

Skills and qualifications:
• Must have experience of facilities management
• Must have experience of wildlife management
• Must have experience of animal husbandry, ideally with bison
• Must be able to operate and perform maintenance on all landscape and ranch machinery
• Must have knowledge of trees, gardens, plants, lawns, watering systems and weed control
• Must be responsible, trustworthy, independent, well organized and with an eye for detail
• Must have a valid drivers’ license
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) would be a plus
