The Wrangler at Camp Trevor Rees-Jones lives on-site from June 1st through July 23rd and assists the Equine Director with maintaining the entirety of the Circle Ten Council Equestrian program, including 25-30 horses, by implementing the plans, policies, and regulations as set forth by the Council Camping Committee. Provide outstanding customer service to all users as well as oversee the daily care of the animals. Maintain cleanliness and serviceability of all related facilities and program equipment. Coordinate quality hay production. The ideal candidate would have experience working with horses, youth, volunteers, marketing, and should have good relationship skills.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Daily

  • Eyes on each horse every day
  • Daily trail rides for customers
  • Ensures daily delivery of feed and hay to each horse
  • Provides exercise to horses during periods of non-use
  • Provides for safety (i.e., health and temperament) of each horse for that day’s ride
  • Responsible for compliance with Circle Ten Equine Program Safety and Riding Rules

Weekly/Monthly

  • Maintains fences, feed stalls and gates
  • Looks for ways to market the program and increase revenue to cover expenses of the program
  • Recommends and carries out approved herd management
  • Conducts Horsemanship merit badge program
  • Leads Cavalcade Program
  • Develops and provides stories, items of interest and materials for internal and external marketing including publishing a monthly correspondence about the equine program targeting the horse community
  • Develops and maintains a veterinarian medical record/log for everyone in the herd
  • Coordinate maintenance, growth, and production of quality horse hay

Annually

  • Designs, obtain approvals, and provides education to riders
  • Identifies, presents, and obtain approval for enhancing rider experience
  • Delivers enhanced Rodeo Night during Summer and Winter and Special Events
  • Develops and leads therapeutic and other non-BSA experiences
