Historic guest ranch seeking caretaker couple or team of individuals to handle housekeeping, grounds keeping, maintenance, etc.

We are located 1.5 hours south of Tucson, but a world away from the desert. This 60 acre woodland property is in the Canelo Hills near Parker Canyon Lake, wine country and the southernmost access points to the Arizona Trail. Sitting at over 5100 feet elevation and surrounded by huge oak and juniper trees, the ranch enjoys cool mountain breezes, gorgeous summer monsoon rains, and even the occasional wintertime snow.

Under new ownership, the Boot and Racquet Ranch has been undergoing extensive renovations for the last year. Six guest housing units have been fully remodeled and renovations continue on the main lodge and outbuildings.

Ideal candidates would share our caretaker cottage and be responsible for duties including:

  • Housekeeping: cleaning guest houses and “glamping” camper (fully restored 1960’s Airstream) between guests
  • Grounds keeping: watering, raking, mowing, brush hog, weed whacking, gardening, tree pruning, fencing, etc.
  • Maintenance: upkeep and repairs as needed on anything inside or outside the buildings, equipment, vehicles, etc.
  • Supply runs: trips to town for supplies, tools, feed, etc.
  • Pet sitting: care for owners horses, dogs and barn cats occasionally when we’re away

Benefits include:

  • Housing
  • Utilities (electric, propane, landline phone, satellite internet)
  • Full time pay; part time lifestyle…less than 5 hours most days

This is not your typical guest ranch or resort. We will run a quiet, low occupancy rate operation with small groups of guests, mainly from our friends and family network. We are focused on holistic health and wellness and also own a regenerative cattle operation in Montana. Guests will be seeking weekend wellness retreats and longer sabbatical stays to rest and reconnect to nature.

We are still in renovation mode but will open the guest houses for retreats and vacation rentals this summer. Over the course of the next year the caretaker team could assist in exciting renovation projects like:

  • Working with the Borderlands Restoration Network to restore native plants and grasses all around the property where construction has damaged plant life
  • Creating a large courtyard vegetable and herb garden, orchard and greenhouse with the goal of feeding ourselves and our guests
  • Setting up pastures and bringing in a small herd of cattle with the intention of rotating horses and cattle around the land for fire mitigation and soil restoration
  • Building a new large shop for tool storage, equipment storage, handyman work space, etc.
  • Designing outdoor guest pavilion for classes, seminars, retreats, etc.
