Overview

  • Part time year round (20-30 hours/week, growth to full time possible with owner’s nearby housing development)
  • Housing negotiable (RV on site- no children; one fenced outdoor dog negotiable, horse(s) negotiable)
  • Days off for working another job in town
  • G rated, family oriented environment (profanity, alcohol use, smoking prohibited)
  • Must be willing to take direction from men or women (owner’s adult daughter involved in most decisions)

120 acre recreational ranch, occupied year round by owners, visited on weekends by family/ friends. Located in charming small town with active rodeo arena, good schools and churches, nice people. Small herd of Brangus cattle, currently a hobby but would like to if it makes sense to grow the herd in the space available. Also have a horse, 3 llamas, chickens, dogs. Open to adding low maintenance, low mess animals according to worker’s expertise. We live a holistic, organic lifestyle and do not use poison, so knowledge of regenerative agriculture is a plus.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • MUST BE TIDY AND KEEP A CLEAN/SAFE WORK ENVIRONMENT. Cannot stress this enough. Inability to return tools to their place, see trash and pick it up, keep a list and be organized/punctual will not work.
  • Pass drug and background screening; smokers (cigarette or vape) need not apply. Clean record is a must.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • High School Education or equivalent
  • At least 3 yrs of working experience on a farm/ranch performing work caring for livestock, all fence types, operating and maintaining farm equipment (tractors, mowers, chain saws, etc. as required).
  • Skills include being able to speak and read English language sufficiently to understand verbal and written directions to properly and safely use all products.
  • Proper operation and maintenance of farm machinery, tractors and agriculture equipment.
  • Skill in use of welder and cutting tools is preferred.
  • Possess or be able to acquire a Texas driver’s license is required.
  • Requires the ability to work in all types of weather (10-110 degrees), ability to lift up to 75 pounds on a frequent basis, prolonged walking, standing, frequent bending, stooping, kneeling and reaching on a daily basis, full range of motion in order to operate manual, electrical, diesel or gasoline powered farm machinery, tools and equipment. Be able to perform in high working conditions (roof repairs etc.).

Bonus qualifications:

  • Tractor/equipment safety certification
  • General knowledge of irrigation systems, anything related to building/renovation
  • Hunting experience (bow, rifle, etc)
  • Gardening experience
  • Proficiency in horseback riding

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Perform general farm/ranch duties as assigned; fence, pasture and grounds maintenance (mowing, planting, cutting trees, fence maintenance etc.).
  • Keep property grounds, shop & equipment clean and neat at all times (grass cut, pool/house porches and patios clean, outdoor furniture clean, vehicles washed, fueled and ready for owner use)
  • Provide general care of livestock (feeding, health, calving, banding, moving etc.).
  • Safely operate pickup trucks, tractors, all farm machinery, equipment and tools.
  • Perform regular and directed maintenance on equipment, be able follow either written or verbal directions for a safe work environment

Salary: $16-$20/hour + bonus (Competitive Salary based on experience, skill set, stability and references)
