We are seeking an experienced, dedicated and personable Ranch Manager to oversee our 40+ year in business cow/calf operation. The position is based near Eads, Colorado. We operate on 15,000+ acres with land resources comprising of native range, and cropland. The ideal candidate is super smart with hands-on experience, willingness to work hard, and work well with others. This position runs the spectrum from strategic management to basic hands-on work. No type of work is above or below our ranch manager. There are always a gazillion things that need to be worked on and this position requires a proactive, can do approach, and the ability effectively prioritize. It is critical you take pride in your work and receive true enjoyment from seeing hard work result in improvements for all facets of our ranch. Responsibilities include:
- Managing all aspects of a cow/calf operation, including breeding, calving, weaning, branding, vaccination, and culling,
- Developing and implementing grazing plans to optimize pasture utilization.
- Overseeing and maintaining ranch infrastructure, including fences, water systems, water tanks, wind mills, equipment, vehicles, and buildings.
- Ability to hire, train and supervise employees and “day work” ranch help as needed.
- Communicating clearly and effectively with Ownership
- Managing the ranch budget.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and best practices.
- Overseeing all aspects of the calving season, ensuring the health and survival of cows and calves.
- Monitoring and managing the health and nutrition of the cow herd.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records of cattle inventory, health, breading, and production data.
- Maintaining good working relationships with neighboring cattle and farming operations.
Qualifications:
- 7-10+ years of proven experience in cattle ranch management.
- Proven experience in ranch management and farming, and experience with a cow calf operation.
- Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and history of effectively managing employees and “day” workers.
- Experience hiring, training and supervising farm and ranch employees and “day” workers.
- Budgeting and financial management experience.
- A strong sense of honesty, integrity, and passion for ranching and agriculture. Hands-on work ethic- this is a physically active role that requires self-motivation and a “doer” not just a “director”.
- Ability to operate, maintain and make basic repairs to farm and ranch equipment.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours and weekends as needed.
Salary: $55k-$80k plus nice home with utilities, and adjacent bunk house (ranch helper or friend & family quarters), horse barn, feed for horses, and ranch vehicle
