We are excited to offer the opportunity for employment at Diamond D Land & Cattle LLC. This position is a cowboy position for the Diamond D – Rocking Chair Unit. Metrics are important to us at Diamond D, and we want our employees to take ownership of the ranch performance. These metrics include, weaning weights, reproductive rates, death loss, and hay yields. We are looking for an individual who wants to be involved in and dedicated to helping Diamond D Land & Cattle become one of the top performing ranches in Wyoming.

The Rocking Chair Unit has extensive Federal land leases. From May to October the cows are primarily grazing public lands. Our Forest Service lease is expansive in some rather rugged terrain. During that time, the candidate is required to be in a cow-camp Monday through Friday, Saturday should be restocking and making necessary arrangements for the following week.

The job duties could include but are not limited to the following:

  • Work in partnership with the Cowboss, and crew members at Diamond D Land & Cattle.
  • Responsible for the grazing, health, and well-being of 800± mature cows.
  • Help coordinate large working events, branding, breeding (including A.I.), etc.
  • Lead gathering, weaning, and shipping in the fall.
  • Night Calve heifers and aid in the calving of mature cows.
  • Care for the ranch cavvy and ride and train ranch horses.

  • Use SPOT (satellite communication device) to check in with ranch manager nightly.
  • Work with Cowboss and Ranch Manager for winter feed management.
  • Other duties may include helping haul hay bales off fields, helping start irrigation systems.

It is important to remember this job is remote with no cell phone coverage and it can be 30 plus miles to town. The candidate will be horseback in rugged steep country; therefore, we require you to think before you act and be cautious. Also, grizzly bears are present in our allotments, not only should you be attentive for your own wellbeing, but you need to be looking for signs of depredation on livestock and report.

The compensation package is as follows:

  • DOE – Competitive wage
  • Housing
  • Work truck and trailer.
  • Health Insurance
  • Half of a beef after probationary period
