Job Opportunity: Equestrian Barn Manager
We are seeking a dynamic, highly skilled, and extroverted Equestrian Barn Manager to oversee our equine operations and lead a dedicated team. This role is a unique blend of high-end hospitality, advanced equine husbandry, and operational leadership. The ideal candidate isn’t just a horse person — they are a professional communicator, a meticulous record-keeper, and a proactive leader who thrives in a fast-paced, safety-first environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Equine Care & Herd Management
- Comprehensive Care: Manage and coordinate nutrition and health for a large, diverse herd (ranging from easy keepers to seniors).
- Medical Oversight: Administer medications, supplements, and deworming schedules. Perform “vet tech” level care, including bandaging, wound treatment, and identifying lameness or illness.even
- Specialist Coordination: Act as the primary liaison for veterinarians, farriers, and dental professionals.
- Herd Dynamics: Manage safe herd placement, pairings, and daily blanketing protocols.
2. Hospitality & Guest Services
- High-End Service: Provide first-class service to members and guests, leveraging a background in hospitality and the horse industry.
- Programming: Lead trail rides, lessons (beginner through advanced), and pony rides.
- Events: Oversee small event management and barn-related social activities.
3. Operational & Facilities Oversight
- Business Expertise: Manage budgets, inventory, and supply chains (including hay knowledge and sales).
- Logistics: Schedule staffing, rides, events, and maintenance appointments.
- Maintenance: Ensure facilities and equipment are in top condition; collaborate with other departments on vehicle and facility needs.
- Transportation: Safely drive trailers and haul horses as needed.
4. Leadership & Training
- Team Management: Oversee the full employee lifecycle, including hiring, training, supervising, and conflict resolution.
- Horse Training: Address behavioral issues on the ground and under saddle; fit tack across various disciplines.
- Horse Sales: Manage the buying and selling process for horses.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Proven success in barn management, wrangling, and trail guiding.
- Riding Ability: Accomplished rider capable of handling any level of horse in both the arena and on the trail.
- Safety Mindset: First Aid/CPR certified (preferred) with a strong foundation in emergency response planning.
- Physical Fitness: Must be able to lift, mount/dismount easily, and perform the rigorous physical labor of barn life.
- Extroverted & Personable: A person who communicates effectively with barn staff, upper management, and members alike.
- Calm Under Pressure: Ability to remain level-headed during emergencies or high-stress guest interactions.
- Detail-Oriented: A stickler for organization and record-keeping.
- Character: Reliable, trustworthy, humble, and possessing a lifelong love for learning.
Work Environment & Requirements
- Work Ethic: A positive attitude and excellent work ethic — you lead by example in the barn and the office.
- Availability: Must be willing to be on call for emergencies and work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the herd and the facility.
Salary and Benefits
- Annual Salary: $75,000 to $90,000 per year (based on experience) with a possible year-end bonus.
- Benefits: Fully paid family health, dental, and vision insurance. Vacation, sick, and holiday pay. Company matching IRA after 1 year of employment.
