Job Description: Equestrian Center Manager & Primary Guide

We are seeking a passionate, experienced, and highly motivated Equestrian Center Manager & Primary Guide to lead operations at Baja’s Awesome Beach Rides and Baja’s Awesome Beach Riding Vacations in beautiful Los Barriles, Baja California Sur.

This role is central to our mission: providing an unforgettable, world-class horseback riding experience while promoting equine welfare, developing our horses’ skills, and expanding our program offerings. As the face of our equestrian center, you’ll ensure our horses thrive, our guests leave inspired, and our community presence continues to grow.

Awesome Goals

  • Expanding and enriching the breadth and depth of our riding programs.
  • Developing horses’ competencies through groundwork, round pen training, and behavioral conditioning.
  • Upholding and elevating the identity of the Los Barriles Equestrian Center.
  • Meeting the evolving interests of local riders and international guests.
  • Delivering the most enthusiastic, customer-focused, and professional equestrian experience possible.

Horses
Horse Care & Facility Management

  • Oversee the health, safety, and well-being of all horses.
  • Supervise or perform feeding, watering, and grooming.
  • Collaborating with management to optimize horse nutrition and ensure the highest-quality alfalfa and grain.
  • Manage hoof care with the farrier
  • Maintain clean, safe, and well-functioning facilities: stalls, arenas, round pens, and property boundaries and coordinate manure removal as needed
  • Ensure water systems are operational at all stalls and arena
  • Promote growth and care of landscaping, trees, and shade areas for animal comfort and facility aesthetics.
  • Sweep the beach daily for manure after rides to maintain a clean environment.

Equipment
Tack, Equipment & Signage

  • Oversee the cleanliness, organization, and maintenance of all tack, gear, and trailers.
  • Ensure all equipment remains in excellent condition; recommend upgrades and replacements when necessary.
  • Maintain all signage for safety, visibility, and brand image.

Guests
Experiences & Trail Operations

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for guests — greeting, orienting, and sharing the story of our horse rescue mission.
  • Introduce guests to horses by name and personality to build connection and trust.
  • Lead and schedule all trail rides across the beach, arroyos, and mountains — always prioritizing safety and rider enjoyment. Support Weeklong itinerary and make recommendations for best experiences.
  • Manage or Assist with client payments and reservations through the Peek booking system.

Our Awesome Brand
Promotion & Community Relations

  • Build word-of-mouth awareness by connecting with opinion leaders and local partners.
  • Conduct “promotional rounds” — distributing flyers and promotional materials throughout Los Barriles and the East Cape region.
  • Interface with our Social Media director and assist to grow our social media presence, sharing engaging photos and stories daily.
  • Support marketing initiatives and partnerships to boost visibility and bookings.

Team Awesome

  • Reports to: Maria Fernandez (General Manager, Awesome Family of Businesses) & Theresa Comber (Managing Partner and Owner, Baja’s Awesome
  • Interfaces with: Shaun Speer (Owner Partner), Tadeo (Stable Assistant), Jose Luis & Chovy Gonzalez (Landowners), veterinarians, farriers, feed suppliers.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: TBD based on experience
    Housing, vehicle, phone, gratuities. See Additional Incentives.
  • Housing: Provided at Baja’s Resort at East Cape
  • Transportation: Jeep provided for in-town use and beach sweep duties
  • Phone Credit: $500 p per month
  • Incentive Compensation:
    First Weeklong Incentive: $400 four riders $300 three riders $200 two riders
    Subsequent Weeklong Incentive: $200 four riders, $150 three riders, $100 for two riders
    Assist and foster outreach to Destination Riding Tour Operators
  • Promote ‘Horse Lovers’ program:
    Five per month = $100 additional compensation
    Eight per month = $150
    Ten per month = $200
  • Repeat season opportunity potential Ownership opportunity

Schedule & Availability

  • Start Date: As soon as possible or by November 1, 2025 to June 1, 2026
  • Time Off: Monday half day and full day Tuesday; adjusted for week-long Vacation Riders

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in horse care, stable management, or equine program leadership.
  • Strong riding, training, and guiding skills.
  • Excellent communication and guest service abilities, kind and enthusiastic.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently.
  • Passion for animal welfare, outdoor adventure, and sharing unique equestrian experiences with diverse guests.
  • Experience with Weeklong riding guests
  • Appreciation for working and riding with children to adults
  • Rudimentary or working knowledge of Spanish
