Purpose

Ensures that the maintenance of the community’s equestrian center meets the standards established for appearance and boarding purposes. Supervises two (2) full-time stable hands in the feeding and cleaning of horses, maintenance of stalls, arenas, and grounds. The duties of the equestrian manager are performed under the direction of the Director of Operations and Operations Manager.

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities

  • Oversees and directs the maintenance and/or repair to water lines, corrals, arenas, fencing, weed abatement, and runoff water is flowing properly.
  • Ensures that up to fifty-four (54) horses are fed twice daily, automatic waterers are providing water, and the stalls are cleaned once daily.
  • Professionally communicates with horse owners, follow up with request, discuss matters.
  • Ensure equestrian center is always kept in a clean, safe, and organized manner.
  • Understands Cal OSHA requirements for safety and for handling of materials and applies this knowledge to help prevent accidents and illness related to the work.
  • Monitor horses throughout the day for any signs of distress and illness (24/7) and immediately report concerns to the horse owner and their noted emergency contacts if necessary.
  • Monitor and order or pick-up supplies supplies; hay, shavings, PDZ, waterers, rakes, buckets, hoses, nozzles, etc.
  • Enforce equestrian center rules. Must be thoroughly knowledgeable with boarding agreements and liability releases.
  • Groom arenas three times weekly, monitoring water needs for dust control.
  • Maintain pasture area, round pen, and hot walker. Reporting any lighting concerns to operations department for their follow through.
  • Ensure entry gates are opened by 6:30am and closed at 10pm nightly along with a health check for all horses 24/7.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

Education/ Experience/Requirements

  • High School graduation or equivalent.
  • Five years of horse related experience.
  • Basic knowledge of safety procedures, environmental health procedures.
