We’re seeking an experienced Western “horse whisperer” to join our Montana ranch team. The ideal candidate will have a deep, intuitive, and understanding relationship with horses, combined with extensive knowledge of ranching, horse behavior, and equine health.

Position is part-time, with the intention to move the right applicant to full-time within a year or sooner.

Position ready to be filled immediately.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with management and care for our horse herd, ensuring their health and well-being
  • Work with Agricultural Operations Manager and owners to establish protocols, daily and seasonal routines
  • Lead guest trail rides and provide horseback riding instruction
  • Assist with general ranching and cowboy tasks as needed, including supporting cattle program when time allows
  • Educate guests on horse behavior, care, and Western riding techniques
  • Responsible for tack upkeep and cleanliness.
  • Responsible for barn upkeep and cleanliness
  • Responsible for corrals and pasture upkeep and cleanliness

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years experience working with horses in a ranch or similar environment
  • Advanced horsemanship skills, with proficiency in Western riding
  • Strong understanding of horse behavior, health, and nutrition
  • Must be a team player
  • Believes in a “leadership” versus “control,” and “partnership” versus “ownership” approach with the horses – and teaches others to do the same.
  • Basic veterinary care knowledge
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, including Western saddles
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience in, or willingness to train, in slow and gentle stockmanship, as owners desire cattle to enjoy positive human interaction

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in guest services and hospitality
  • Experience with cattle work and ranch operations
  • Additional outdoor activity skills (e.g., hiking, archery)
  • Ability to operate tractor, backhoes, and skid steer a plus
