Wapika Ranch horse operation is dedicated to providing top-notch care and training for horses. We are seeking a passionate, caring and experienced certified Horse Trainer to join our team and help us maintain our high standards of equine care and training. The Horse Trainer is responsible for the over care, training, exercise and development of horses while monitoring their progress and adjust training methods as necessary. Access to a state-of-the-art training facility and equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Train and exercise horses to improve their performance, behavior and physical condition
  • Develop and implement individualized training programs for each horse
  • Monitor and assess the progress of horses and adjust training methods as necessary
  • Work closely with owners, veterinarians, farriers and other equine professionals to ensure top-notch health and well-being of the horses
  • Provide guidance and instruction to horse owners and riders on proper riding techniques and horse care
  • Oversee the grooming, care and feeding staff
  • Maintain detailed records of each horse’s training progress and health status
  • Ensure the safety of horses and riders during training sessions
  • Oversee both breeding and birthing of horses
  • Maintain a gentle hand with the horses
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certification from the Horsemanship Association (CHA) or the American Riding Instructors Association (ARIA) preferred
  • 2-5 years’ hands-on experience in horse training with a successful track record
  • 1-3 years’ experience in breeding and birthing preferred
  • Strong knowledge of horse behavior, training techniques and equine health
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office or Google for maintenance of records
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Passion and a true love for horses and a gentle hand with horses with a commitment to their well-being, required
  • Onsite housing available, 1- or 2-bedroom apartment with kitchen provided at no cost to the employee
  • Travel expectations up to 20% as needed
  • Physical Activities include physical fitness and stamina to handle the demands of horse training, bending, stooping, crouching. Able to use hands and walk for long periods of time. May require running with the horse as needed. Able to lift up to 30 lbs. Some time on a computer with screens that may emit blue light.
