A private family with a large eventer farm located in Ocala, FL is seeking a full-time, Live-in, highly skilled and professional barn manager for the feeding, handling and general care of 8 – 10 horses, facilities and grounds. This position reports directly to the Principals and Ranch Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position, the job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Direct overall supervision and operation of the barn
  • Responsible for interacting and maintaining professional relationships with veterinarians, farriers, vendors and suppliers
  • Ensure that each horse’s daily specific diet and medical needs are met
  • Responsible for the ordering of all feed, including minerals and hay and other supplies and ensuring they are stocked and inspected for deficiencies upon delivery
  • Maintaining confidentiality regarding principals, guests and day to day activities is essential
  • Must possess a true service heart
  • Responsible for vetting and assisting in the hiring process of grooming staff.
  • Train and direct groomers to maintain a clean barn, healthy animals, and a safe work environment.
  • Ensure that horses are exercised and ridden daily and that the herd is managed for optimal performance and health.
  • Maintain records of when horses are ridden, shod, and vaccinated.
  • Ensure that the barn and equipment are always impeccably clean and well maintained
  • Assist in day-to-day tasks if necessary, including feeding and watering horses, cleaning stalls and corrals.
  • Maintain the highest level of hospitality services, always alert, friendly, and able to assist principal and guests politely and promptly.
  • Ensure the highest standards of first aid, safety, sanitation, and personal hygiene are met.
  • Possess a positive and outgoing personality and share’s that in interactions with principal, guests and coworkers.
  • Establish systems, inventories, and procedures to streamline and improve the equine care program.
  • All other duties as assigned.

ACCOMMODATIONS
This is a Live-in position and requires applicant to live on property in Ocala, FL. Housing provided.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High School or equivalent education is required. Minimum 3 plus years’ experience working in/with an equine barn operation. Background in eventing, equine health and nutrition, barn oversight, and people management is a must. Experience working for a UHNW private family is highly preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
The candidate must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The candidate must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
This position requires the operation of a vehicle, candidate must possess a valid Driver’s License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment. The candidate’s driving record must meet the standards and requirements of the Company and the Company’s insurance carrier. CDL license and experience a plus.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Employee must adhere to Company and property policies and procedures, which are included in the Company’s Employee Handbook.
  • Candidate may be subject to undergo pre-employment drug test, (after offer is given but before applicant has commenced work). Random drug tests are given throughout the year.
  • Must have a personal vehicle to travel from location to local town for personal needs.
  • The Company operates as a drug free/smoke free workplace. Smoking is not allowed on the property, to include but is not limited to, company housing, vehicles, offices or on company machines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/ move up to 50 pounds.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet, hot or humid conditions; work near moving mechanical parts; outdoor weather conditions; extreme heat.
