Position description:

We are seeking an experienced Trainer for a private ranch west of Austin, Texas. Primary responsibilities are to provide outstanding horse training and care and enhance the skills of riders. This is a unique opportunity to work at an equestrian property in a convenient and highly desirable location minutes away from restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. Individuals that will be successful in this role will have proven the skills below and possess an outstanding work ethic.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide outstanding care to a small herd of high quality horses
  • Train horses for western riding in both arena and trail, using reward based and natural horsemanship methods
  • Help improve riders’ skills in western disciplines
  • Work with and communicate daily with owners and Ranch Manager
  • Ensure proper daily feeding and nutrition
  • Help manage inventory of feed & horse supplies and maintain barn condition
  • Identify illness or lameness early and work with veterinarians to quickly address

Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum 3 years of prior experience as a Trainer at a high quality equine stable, ranch, or breeding/training barn
  • Must be an expert rider, 10+ years of riding and caring for horses preferred
  • Comfort and deep experience with reward based and natural horsemanship training, not negative/punishment based training
  • Outstanding equine knowledge including behavior, training, nutrition, and heath conditions
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment with ranch staff and owners
  • Primarily work weekdays during business hours, but need to be happy to stay late or work part time on weekends as needed/in case of emergencies
  • Must already be a US citizen or legal resident
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background and drug tests
  • Must have strong, consistent work ethic with references from former positions

Salary: Highly competitive starting pay of $75,000-$100,000 per year based on experience
