Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned, expert-level Ranch Manager to oversee day-to-day operations of our 6,000-acre ranch north of Broken Bow, Nebraska. As a vital hub in our multi-state cattle, beef, and premium genetics enterprise, this property demands a leader who pairs traditional stockmanship with modern, data-driven management.
You will be responsible for the health and productivity of 1,500 head of cattle, intensive forage management in the Sandhills ecosystem, asset maintenance, and leading on-site personnel. This is a hands-on, high-autonomy role reporting directly to ownership.
Key Responsibilities
Herd Management & Stockmanship

Daily Care: Oversee the health, nutrition, and overall welfare of 1,500 head of cattle (including breeding stock and genetics programs).

Protocol Execution: Implement low-stress cattle handling techniques for sorting, processing, and artificial insemination (AI) or bull breeding programs.

Veterinary Care: Partner with veterinarians to execute vaccination protocols, treat sickness, and manage calving/weaning seasons.
Range & Forage Management

Rotational Grazing: Design and execute a sustainable, intensive rotational grazing plan optimized for the Nebraska Sandhills to maximize forage and soil health.

Feed & Supplementation: Monitor range conditions and manage winter feeding programs, including hay sourcing and mineral supplementation.

Water Infrastructure: Maintain and optimize extensive stock water systems (wells, solar pumps, pipelines, and tanks).
Leadership & Team Management

Crew Leadership: Recruit, train, and supervise full-time ranch hands and seasonal labor.

Safety Culture: Foster a safe, efficient, and professional working environment on the ranch.
Operations, Assets & Maintenance

Infrastructure Upkeep: Maintain fences, working facilities, corrals, and ranch buildings in top condition.

Equipment Care: Oversee the preventative maintenance and repair of tractors, ATVs/UTVs, trucks, and haying equipment.

Logistics: Coordinate the physical shipping, receiving, and cross-state transferring of livestock.
Data & Financial Input

Chute-Side Data: Ensure precise physical data collection (weights, tags, vaccinations) and sync seamlessly with our Remote Operations & Admin Manager.

Budgeting: Manage local operational expenses, track input costs (feed, fuel, vet supplies), and operate within annual budgetary guidelines.
Qualifications & Requirements

Experience: Minimum of 5–7 years of hands-on management experience on a large-scale cattle operation (1,000+ head preferred).

Sandhills Knowledge: Deep familiarity with Nebraska Sandhills ecosystems, intensive grazing strategies, and winter weather management is highly preferred.

Technical Skills: Expert-level skills in calving, doctoring, welding, fence building, and heavy machinery operation.

Tech Savvy: Comfortable using (or learning) digital herd management software, GPS mapping tools, and basic spreadsheets to relay data to the remote administrative team.

Leadership: Proven track record of managing and motivating ranch hands and working effectively with remote ownership.

Licensing: Valid Driver’s License required; CDL is a major plus.
