Farm Manager/ Ranch Hand. Family farm that also operates a non-profit for Agricultural Education. Candidates must pass a background check, but will not have direct responsibilities with non-profit, but will have direct contact with college interns and community volunteers.
Daily activities and responsibilities include but are not limited to the feeding and care of livestock (chickens, turkeys, ducks, cows, pigs, goats and various equine. We have intact males, geldings and mares and you must be comfortable with hand moving equine.
Candidates must be able to operate machinery, tractor w/ IPO implements and maintain tractor, gators, ATV’s, skid steer, Ztrac mowers. hand augers and tillers. We have hay forage and specialty crops that one will need to have familiarity with. Hauling animals, equipment and hay on trailers is a must. The skill of hooking up a trailer, tying down equipment, balancing loads and backing and maneuvering trailers is a must. Safety and communication are key elements. You must be capable of making decisions often quickly and carrying them out independently.
Candidates must be able to lift heavy items and at minimum 50lbs. repeatedly in sometimes extreme heat or cold. The farm manager must live on property and housing is provided, but it isn’t large enough for a family with children. For liability purposes personal animals will have to be decided upon on a case by case basis.
We are 80 acres inside the city limits of a suburb of Kansas City, not out in the county/country. We are not a dude ranch or riding facility. We do not teach riding lessons or break horses, we do breed them. I do require 2-5 years experience as I do not have the time to teach a skill that may be missing outside of the specialty crops. No big drinkers, no drugs and no drama please.
