This is a high-responsibility role with compensation aligned to experienced farm/property managers.
Nestled just outside Hendersonville, North Carolina, this private family retreat spans ~70 acres and features diverse livestock, an organic garden, homes, and abundant wildlife.
This is a small hobby farm with ongoing plans to improve infrastructure, remodel and build homes, repair and expand trails, and potentially add animals over time. The farm maintains chickens for eggs and sheep and goats for grazing. Animals are not raised for sale or consumption.
We are seeking one highly experienced Farm & Property Manager, with the potential for a couple depending on individual qualifications, for a full-time, year-round live-on property role with housing provided.
This position requires a hands-on, experienced professional who can independently manage all aspects of a small farm and large property, while also overseeing staff and subcontractors. You will work closely with the Owners to ensure seamless daily operations and high standards across the property.
This role is supported by the Owner, bookkeeper, and dedicated farm and garden shift staff.
Housing is provided on-site for one individual, couple, or two adults. A farm-friendly dog may be considered; no outside livestock or equine can be accommodated.
Key Responsibilities
Farm Operations
• Provide daily care for livestock and animals (7 days/week, with part-time staff support)
• Feed, water, groom, monitor health, and maintain clean living environments
• Support and manage organic garden operations (soil prep, planting, irrigation, pest control, harvesting)
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot farm equipment and machinery
Property & Equipment Management
• Perform routine and preventative maintenance on homes, barns, fencing, and infrastructure
• Maintain roads, trails, and water systems, including erosion control and removal of fallen trees/branches• Operate tractors, attachments, and a wide range of property management equipment
Repairs & Hands-On Work
• Perform skilled handyman work including carpentry, plumbing repairs, basic electrical work, and general farm/property repairs
• Diagnose and resolve issues efficiently and independently
Operations, Staffing & Oversight
• Oversee and coordinate subcontractors (landscaping, repairs, specialty services)
• Supervise, schedule, and direct on-property staff and seasonal workers
• Hire and onboard support staff as needed, in coordination with the Owner
• Adhere to approved budgets and manage expenses responsibly
• Maintain inventory of tools, supplies, feed, and materials
• Ensure organization across all work areas, systems, and storage
• Maintain clear, consistent, and professional communication with Owners and team members
• Ensure quality, efficiency, and accountability across all work performed
Record Keeping & Communication
• Maintain organized records for livestock health, garden schedules, equipment maintenance, and inventory
• Provide regular updates to Owners, including photo and video documentation as needed
Health, Safety & Standards
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused environment
• Adhere to a chemical-free property standard (no commercial pesticides/herbicides)
• Ensure safe practices for staff, animals, and visitors
Qualifications
Required (Non-Negotiable)
• Minimum 5+ years of experience in a live-on farm or property management role
• Proven, hands-on experience operating tractors, attachments, and land/property equipment
• Strong working knowledge of livestock care, organic gardening, and property maintenance systems
• Demonstrated experience with carpentry, plumbing, and general repairs
• Ability to work independently and problem-solve without supervision
• Experience overseeing subcontractors and staff• Physically capable of demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions
• Valid driver’s license with clean record
• Comfortable with large livestock guardian dogs
• Must pass background check
• Must comply with a drug-free and nicotine-free (no smoking/vaping) property policy
Preferred
• Experience in organic or sustainable farming systems
