Moderate size farm and ranch looking for an energetic employee to help process and manage a 275 pair cattle herd and a winter feedlot operation of 1000 calves.  Cow/calf operation consists of winter feeding, spring calving, and summer/fall grazing.  Backgrounding feedlot gears up in early November and runs through March.

The ranch operation is supported by an irrigated farm utilizing both sprinkler and flood irrigation.  Crops grown to support the cow/calf and feedlot operations are corn for silage, alfalfa hay for forage and barley for protein.  In addition, 2 cash crops, malt barley and sugar beets, are grown to facilitate proper crop rotation and healthy soil management.

The Benefit Package for this position includes a semi-monthly salary based on experience and knowledge.  Plus, non-smoking housing, utilities, renters’ insurance, monthly cell phone fee, a work vehicle, up to one beef per year, 4 personal leave days and one week vacation after 6 months.  The housing available is 3 bedrooms, 2 bath on the edge of the town of Hysham with covered parking for one vehicle and a small enclosed garage.  An annual end of year performance review will be performed with bonuses paid twice per year (February & July). The work week is 6 days and will include Sundays at times, especially during harvest and calving.  The farming is approximately 75% of time allocated and ranching 25%.  Wrangling is done mostly on ATVs.

Applicant MUST have a valid driver’s license and it MUST be in your possession.  Successful applicant must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and be capable of hard, physical labor in any weather.  Experience is preferred in the operation of ATVs, 10, 13, & 15 speed tandem axle farm trucks, John Deere and Case tractors and pickups with manual transmissions.  Experience also preferred in cattle management and in irrigation.

Broad spectrum of hunting available from birds to big game.  Great fishing on property bordering the Yellowstone River.  Good fly fishing within 30-minute drive to the Bighorn River.  Opportunity to run small herd of cows.
