Position Overview

We are seeking a dependable, responsible, and experienced Farm & Ranch Manager / Horse Caretaker, or a couple, to help oversee the daily care and upkeep of a 100+ acre private property. This hands-on position involves caring for cattle, tending to the owners’ horses, maintaining the property, and coordinating routine maintenance and repairs.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, has practical ranch and animal-care experience, takes pride in maintaining a property to the highest standard, and understands the importance of providing attentive, consistent care to animals.

We are open to an individual or a qualified couple who enjoy the ranch/farm lifestyle and are looking for a long-term opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

Livestock & Animal Care

  • Provide daily care, feeding, watering, and monitoring of cattle.
  • Assist with routine livestock checks and general herd management.
  • Care for the owners’ horses, including feeding, grooming, turnout, stall cleaning, and monitoring their health and well-being.
  • Ride horses as appropriate and assist with exercise, handling, training, and general conditioning based on experience and the owners’ needs.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and well-organized barns, stalls, paddocks, and animal enclosures.
  • Recognize signs of illness, injury, or changes in animal behavior and communicate concerns promptly.
  • Coordinate veterinary, farrier, and other animal-care appointments as needed.

Property & Ranch Maintenance

  • Oversee the general appearance, cleanliness, and upkeep of the 100+ -acre property.
  • Monitor fencing, gates, pastures, barns, outbuildings, driveways, and other ranch infrastructure.
  • Assist with pasture management, weed control, mowing, and general groundskeeping as needed.
  • Identify maintenance needs and arrange or coordinate repairs with appropriate contractors and service providers.
  • Schedule routine maintenance for ranch equipment, vehicles, and property systems as applicable.
  • Keep the property organized, safe, and well maintained.

Property Management & Coordination

  • Coordinate maintenance schedules, service appointments, vendors, and contractors.
  • Communicate regularly with the owners regarding animal care, property conditions, repairs, and ongoing needs.
  • Monitor supplies, feed, hay, bedding, and other ranch necessities, and help coordinate purchasing and deliveries.
  • Assist with seasonal projects, storm preparation, and other property-related tasks.
  • Be attentive to the security and general well-being of the property.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience with horses, cattle, ranching, farming, equestrian facilities, or large-property management.

  • Ability to identify problems, prioritize tasks, and coordinate repairs efficiently.
  • Self-motivated, trustworthy, organized, and detail-oriented.

  • Able to work independently while communicating effectively with the owners.
  • Valid driver’s license; experience operating farm or ranch equipment is a plus.
  • A strong work ethic, good judgment, and genuine respect for animals and property.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is hands-on, proactive, and takes ownership of their responsibilities. The right person will understand that caring for a ranch involves both daily animal care and anticipating the maintenance needs of the property.

A couple with complementary skills in animal care, ranch maintenance, groundskeeping, or property management would be welcomed and considered.

Compensation & Housing

  • Compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Housing may become available at a later date for the right individual or couple. Housing is not guaranteed at the outset and would be discussed separately.
