McDowell Farms is growing farm consortium with a developing premium hay operations, well developed wildlife management systems and a sister Equestrian Center. Located South of Spring Hill KS, the ranch consist of 1,700 acres multiple barns, farm house, guest house and small stable. We’re on a mission to become a leading regional supplier of premium equestrian and cattle hays as well a be a show case for wildlife and land management. We’re heavily investing in the farm and ranching operation and equipment with developing sales and distribution of our premium hay. Job Description

As Ranch Manager, your role is to manage all operations of our hay and wildlife development and work in conjunction with Equestrian management. Your responsibility includes all aspects of the ranch management including pasture management, wildlife management, equipment management, farm ground management, and supervise two to four ranch hands to accomplish the workload necessary to successfully accomplish the above.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifying the work that needs to be done and do or assigning it to the staff accordingly.
  • Develop plans and systems to advance the hay operations.
  • Land preparation, planting, chemical and fertilizer application, harvesting and storage of hay.
  • Budget and plan for equipment replacement.
  • Mapping of all pastures and food plots with soil sample results (current) and field plans two years out.
  • Assist in hay marketing.
  • Administer and improve plans to advance Wildlife development (Food plot planning / execution / feed programs).
  • Ensure that care and maintenance of facilities and equipment is followed and documented.
  • Hiring, training, and leading our staff in a manner that promotes continued growth and accountability.
  • Management of our farm ground to maximize economic productivity, whether it’s for cash crops (leased), Hay and Wildlife.
  • Pond management, development and planning.
  • Machinery knowledge and repair programs (Skid Steer / tractors / implements / dozer / trackhoe, etc.
  • Proficient at welding.
  • Fence planning and maintenance.

Qualifications

Position Requirements:

  • Multiple years of hands-on experience working on a farm / ranch operation in the Midwest.
  • At least two years of directly managing other people.
  • Experience in farming and haying and wildlife development.
  • BS in animal science or closely related degree.
  • Live within fifteen minutes of the ranch or willing to move (relocation assistance considered).
  • Familiarity of ag technology such as MS Excel etc.
  • Proficiency and understanding of horses preferred.
  • Understanding of how to develop an annual budget and financial forecasts as needed.
  • Ability to be available 24 hours per day (on call for questions, emergencies, etc.)

Additional Information:

  • Salary: $60,000-90,000 Full-Time (based on experience)
  • Health Insurance allowance available
