Houret Livestock
Wanted – Feedlot Hand – Filer, Idaho – Houret Livestock is a backgrounding yard located 10 miles south of Twin Falls, ID. The yard has a capacity of 6,000 head and some smaller grass turnouts.
Fall and Spring have a heavy focus on backgrounding several thousand grass cattle while also feeding other cattle year round. Wean several thousand calves in late spring and early fall. Being familiar bawling calves and lightweight cattle would be very beneficial. Many of the cattle are owned by operator with some custom feeding. Not a corporate yard or environment. Duties will include but not limited to riding pens and doctoring cattle, processing incoming cattle, weighing and shipping/receiving. Majority of sick cattle are roped and treated in the pens so having the ability to efficiently rope and handle cattle would be beneficial.
This position will predominantly involve cattle handling but there will need to be some level of involvement in all aspects of the yard. The ability to operate equipment, mechanic, or weld would be beneficial. Must be capable of working with a team and independently. Expect to have some variation everyday. Expect to be horseback 5-6 days a week and to rope 3-5 head every day. Personal horse must be capable and safe to do the job. Company horses also available if you don’t have one you can get the job done on. This is a Monday – Saturday job with one full weekend off and one Sunday a month on, additional days off as needed.
Unfortunately there is no housing available with this position, however salary will reflect that and there is housing available to rent nearby. Compensation package will reflect experience and abilities.
