ABOUT THE POSITION
Mark Miller Cattle is looking for a dependable, experienced, and motivated Feedlot Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations at one or more of our feedlot locations. This is a hands-on leadership position that reports to the General Manager. The Feedlot Manager is responsible for cattle health, animal nutrition, employee management, equipment, facilities, and overall feedlot performance.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in his or her work, pays attention to detail, communicates well, and understands that successful cattle feeding operations are built on consistent care, strong employees, and good management.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Oversee the daily feeding, health, handling, and management of feedlot cattle
- Monitor cattle health, condition, behavior, and performance
- Oversee daily feeding to and ensure cattle receive the proper rations consistently
- Monitor feed bunks, feed inventory, and feed efficiency
- Work with the veterinarian and nutritionist on cattle health and nutrition
- Oversee receiving, processing, sorting, treatment, and shipping of cattle
- Maintain accurate animal health, feed, and performance records
- Monitor cattle performance, including weight gain, feed conversion, and death loss
- Lead, train, schedule, and supervise feedlot employees
- Establish clear expectations and hold employees accountable for performance
- Maintain a safe, organized, and productive work environment
- Oversee the maintenance and operation of feedlot equipment
- Monitor pens, bunks, water systems, fencing, facilities, and handling areas
- Coordinate maintenance and repairs as needed
- Monitor feed, medication, and supply inventory
- Communicate regularly with ownership regarding cattle, employees, equipment, and operational needs
- Identify problems early and take initiative to find solutions
- Maintain high standards for animal welfare, employee safety, and operational efficiency
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
The ideal candidate will be:
- Experienced in cattle and feedlot operations
- A strong leader who can effectively manage and motivate a team
- Dependable, organized, and detail-oriented
- Comfortable making decisions and taking ownership of responsibilities
- A strong and effective communicator
- Hands-on and willing to work alongside the team
- Knowledgeable about cattle health, handling, nutrition, and feeding
- Comfortable operating agricultural equipment
- Safety-minded and committed to doing things the right way
- Able to work independently while communicating effectively with ownership and management
EXPERIENCE
- Previous feedlot, cattle, or livestock management experience preferred
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Knowledge of cattle nutrition and health preferred
- Experience with feedlot records or management software is a plus
- Valid driver’s license is required
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is a hands-on, full-time feedlot position requiring daily work around cattle, equipment, and agricultural facilities. The position requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions and may require occasional weekends, holidays, or extended hours depending on cattle needs, weather, and operational demands. Employees must follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment as needed.
