Location: Egan, Texas (Johnson County, near Burleson and Cleburne) – Must live nearby and commute daily (no on-site housing provided at this time)

Job Type: Full-Time (5 days/week, flexible daily schedule – we prefer starting early in summer to beat the heat)

Compensation: $50,000 base salary + up to $25,000 performance bonus opportunity for exemplary work (our goal: you keep the place looking sharp so we both stay happy!)

Benefits: Subsidized health and vision insurance, paid time off (PTO)

About the Role: Do you enjoy making things beautiful? Love stepping back at the end of the day to see what you’ve accomplished—freshly mowed fields, crisp edges, thriving gardens, tidy fences? We’re looking for a reliable, hands-on caretaker to keep our 70-acre ranch immaculate and running smoothly. This isn’t heavy animal work (we have a separate horse training operation on-site), but you’ll handle the property like it’s your own: mowing, weeding, trimming, building, and more. It’s outdoor work you can take pride in, with the satisfaction of a well-kept, eye-catching ranch.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the grounds: mowing (zero-turn and enclosed AC mower), edging, weeding, fertilizing, herbicide application to control weeds
  • Extensive tree trimming (chainsaws, pole saws)
  • Fence repair and small building projects
  • Build and maintain a world-class vegetable garden with sophisticated irrigation system
  • Care for ~40 chickens (daily feeding/watering/egg collection, coop cleaning, scaling toward consistent meat bird crops and 12+ eggs/day production)
  • Operate and maintain equipment: Big enclosed John Deere tractor, skid steer, tow-behind Wylie sprayer, leaf cyclone, side-by-sides, large 15-acre irrigation system, well, power washer, etc.
  • Power washing, general upkeep to keep everything looking sharp and functional
  • Be proactive: spot “eye-sores” before they bug anyone, stay organized, and check in periodically (more often at first, then quarterly once we’re aligned on the vision)

Ideal Candidate:

  • Proven prior experience with ALL these tasks—must be very handy and comfortable operating/maintaining heavy equipment
  • Independent self-starter who listens well, gets after it, and is eager to please (share the vision once, then execute with minimal oversight)
  • Comfortable around horses (we have ~10 on-site, training 6 currently); interest in learning horse training is a plus (especially for the right person/couple down the road), but not required
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, non-smoker
  • Enjoys outdoor work year-round in Texas weather
  • Couples welcome to apply (no requirement for both to work full-time; flexible if one focuses on caretaking and the other assists casually or learns horses)

What We’re NOT Looking For: Just talkers—we need listeners who act and keep things beautiful without constant direction.

Start Date: Ideally within 1-3 months

TO APPLY:

How to Apply: Email your resume and a brief note telling us about your relevant experience (especially equipment, groundskeeping, gardening, or chicken care).
