High Desert Equestrian Center Ltd is Hiring!
HDEC is a private boarding facility offering both Western and English riding disciplines, currently boarding 20-30 horses and with a capacity of 60. We have learned over the years that less is more, and we are dedicated to providing a functional, supportive workplace where our staff has a good work-life balance. We offer 2 round-pens, 4 arenas, dressage, hunter-jumper, and indoor, all with excellent footing. We have a small cross-country course with jumps throughout the property, as well as a perimeter riding track around our farm. We butt up against hundreds of miles of BLM land with excellent terrain for conditioning horses. We have incredible trails throughout our area, access to world-class mountain biking, hiking, and skiing, and every other form of recreation. Grand Junction is a college town and is the regional trauma center for Western Colorado, Utah, and Northern New Mexico, while boasting a small-town feel.
Position: A premier equestrian facility in Western Colorado is seeking a skilled and dedicated individual or couple (friends are ok too) to join our small team! Located just outside Grand Junction, Colorado, our barn is the perfect opportunity for an individual or couple willing to help with the care and upkeep of horses.
Responsibilities: We are willing to train the right individual in some areas if the right candidate does not possess all the necessary qualifications.
- Overseeing daily barn operations, including feeding, turnout, and equine health (must have a working knowledge of equine illness, injuries, and emergencies).
- Ensuring the highest standard of horse care and facility maintenance.
- Cleaning Stalls and Pens.
- Maintaining clean water troughs.
- General knowledge of the ranch facility repairs and maintenance.
- Tractor work, including dragging arenas, and some field work, including irrigation.
- Horse transportation experience is a plus.
- Driving a company truck, w/ a dump trailer will be required.
- The position will eventually require management responsibilities, including scheduling and maintaining a clean, organized facility.
Job Qualifications/Requirements:
- Equine experience and strong horsemanship and handling skills
- Clean background check and driving record
- Ability to work independently.
- General ranch repairs, including fixing fence, pens, gates, stall doors (this is a plus but not a requirement).
- Working knowledge of equine health and nutrition.
- Have a willingness to learn and a can-do, will-do attitude to assist with all farm operations/activities, even if not listed in the job description.
- Smoke/Vape/Drug Free workplace.
- Background check required
