Job Title: Full-Time Horse Caretaker (Live-In Position)
Location: Calvert, Texas for the first year or so and then operation is moving to south College Station, Texas
Housing Provided
We’re looking for a no-nonsense, hardworking individual who puts horses first and isn’t afraid of long days, dirty boots, or flying solo.
About the Job:
This is a working position—not a ranch manager, not a trainer, not some Yellowstone fantasy. You’ll be caring for five highly trained horses, a couple of livestock guardian dogs, two goats, and a hobby herd of cattle consisting of 8. Your daily responsibilities include feeding, watering, mucking stalls, grooming, exercising the horses, and keeping the barn clean and functional.
You’ll be working alone most days, so you need to know what you’re doing and be able to get it done without hand-holding. If you need a crew, a schedule full of days off, or think this is your stepping stone to show rings and TV cameras—this isn’t it.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Daily feeding and watering
- Cleaning stalls and pens
- Turning out and bringing in horses
- Grooming and checking for injuries
- Riding/exercising horses
- Basic property and barn upkeep
- Taking responsibility like the animals depend on you—because they do!
What We Offer:
- Private housing on-site (utilities included)
- A quiet place to work without someone breathing down your neck
- Honest pay for honest work
- Horses that need real care, not show prep
What We Expect:
- Experience: You know horses, and you’ve done this before
- Work ethic: You show up, do the job, and don’t whine
- Independence: You’ll be the only one doing the job
- Common sense: Take care of the animals and the place like it’s yours
- Clean lifestyle: No drugs, no drama, no freeloaders
This Job Is NOT:
- A stepping stone to be a “ranch manager”
- For someone who wants days off every weekend
- For someone who can ride but won’t pick up a shovel
- A training gig or guest ranch job
- For anyone with excuses or entitlement
TO APPLY:
If you want to live on a quiet Texas property, work with horses every day, and be part of something real, send us a quick description of your experience and a phone number. If you want to send resume that is fine but is not necessary, no fluff—just the truth.
