We are a private, small horse rescue ranch located on five acres adjacent to hundreds of acres of public trails, just 8 miles from downtown Santa Fe, New Mexico. Our facility includes three barns, a covered arena, outdoor arena, and two round pens. You can quickly ride out on trails with views of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains and the Jemez Mountains. We currently have four rescue horses, and two private horses housed at the ranch. All horses are trained and easy to halter, lead and lunge, and train to ride.
This is a full time, live in position, which includes a salary and one bedroom apartment. All utilities are paid. Also included is board for one horse.
The main job duties are to ensure the safety of all animals (currently four rescue horses, a cat and four chickens). The manager will: feed and grain, turn out, bring in, muck stalls, groom, and saddle horses for the owner. The manger will supervise one barn worker, track and oversee vet, hoof, and other health care. All other responsibilities of caring for the horses and the facility will be the barn manager’s: ordering hay, supplies, working with fencers, repairmen and other contractors. If able and skilled, the barn manager will continue horse training as demonstrated by our professional horse trainer who works with the horses twice a week. We expect to have a reduction of horses on October 1, which will result in there being three rescue horses on site.
Requirements are: Proven horse handling ability; management experience; excellent communication skills, independent work ethic, and of course — honest, trustworthy and hard working. We would like someone with barn/ranch management experience.
We are a peaceful ranch, with very little, if any, drama or discord. We are dedicated to the excellent care and training of our horses. This is a non-smoking facility. We prefer someone without a pet, but may accommodate under right circumstances. We are looking to fill the position by October 1, 2022.
