POSITION STILL AVAILABLE AS OF 2/18/2017

PLEASE ONLY APPLY IF YOU HAVE RELEVANT EXPERIENCE. HORSE HANDLING AND STALL CLEANING EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. NO HORSE RIDING EXPERIENCE NEEDED.

General Ranch Duties: Gardening including tree planting, fertilizing, seeding and weeding, brush cutting and lawn mowing. General construction and building and land maintenance. Loading, unloading and stacking of hay bales, horse feed bags, shavings, general supplies and construction supplies. Safe use of the ATV and bobcat cart to move manure, feed, supplies, debris and people, using only as assigned. Safe use of tractor, as directed.

Horses: Stall cleaning inside barn, outside at paddocks and at pasture. (No riding or training permitted). Loading and unloading of hay and various feed (stacking bales up to 120lbs with assistance). Transfer soiled shavings and manure from wheelbarrows into the manure spreader. Cleaning up manure from arenas and round pen as needed, also picking up manure from roads and common areas. Replenishing bedding/shavings as needed and as specified by supervisor. Moving horses to and from barn to paddocks and from paddocks to the pasture on a set schedule. Feeding horses following prescribed horse feeding menu. Cleaning and filling water troughs ensuring that they are full and clean at all times. Handle and move horses with control and in a safe manner. Notify Ranch Manager of any health or behaviour changes or concerns.

Ranch Housekeeping/Stocking: General clean up of designated working spaces, laundry, and organizing storage and working spaces. Stocking of supplies as needed.

Basic Requirements:

Experience with horses and general ranch work
Valid cleanDrivers License to drive in California
Ability to follow instructions and perform as instructed.
Love of the outdoors and getting dirty, along with the willingness to work in all weather conditions, including cold, heat and rain.
Ability to work under supervision and collaborate as a team; also, the ability to work independently and be proactive about animals’ needs and limitations.
Strong communication skills including ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Comfortable using internet applications and email daily.
Reliable attendance and ability to work weekends or evenings when necessary.
Overtime may be required.
Attend staff meetings and designated trainings.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a kennel/shelter/barn setting and outdoors.
Wear protective footwear, protective clothing for outdoor weather, and safety equipment
Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, walking, and standing on feet 8-10 hours per day while performing job functions.
Exposure to disinfectant solutions when cleaning.
Exposure to various weather conditions when working outdoors.
Subject to animal bites and scratches while handling animals.
Tetanus and rabies (pre-exposure) inoculations are recommended.
Consistent exposure to animals and animal allergens under conditions with limited alternatives available.
Frequent oral and written communication with fellow workers, veterinary and emergency personnel and members of the public.
Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs unassisted and 120 pounds with assistance.

This position requires some weekend hours.
