Full-Time Upland Dog Trainer

Retrievers & Pointing Dogs

Location: South Carolina

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Upland Dog Trainer to join our Private Lodge training program dedicated to producing exceptional hunting companions and field-ready gun dogs.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a professional trainer who takes pride in developing dogs to the highest standards and wants to work in a serious upland hunting environment.

Responsibilities

  • Train and develop retrievers and pointing dogs from foundation through advanced levels.
  • Evaluate each dog’s temperament and tailor training programs accordingly.
  • Maintain exceptional standards of animal care and kennel management.
  • Exercise and condition dogs for peak performance.
  • Communicate professionally with owners regarding training progress.
  • Assist with daily kennel operations and the overall success of the training program.
  • Perform basic farm duties

Desired Qualifications

  • Proven experience training upland retrievers and pointing dogs.
  • Strong understanding of bird dog development and field work.
  • Experience handling multiple dogs in a professional setting.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain high standards.
  • Excellent bird dog handling skills are highly valued.
  • Valid driver’s license 
  • Must pass a criminal background check and be eligible to work in the US
  • Ability to work outdoors in all seasons
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic veterinary experience.
  • Experience whelping litters and caring for puppies from birth through early development.
  • Experience handling young dogs and starting puppies in birds and field work.
  • Experience participating in hunt tests, field trials, or guiding operations is a plus.
