JOB SUMMARY: Assistant the in the day-to-day operation of the Livery.  Acting as the supervisor on duty in the absence of the Livery Managers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist all guests and staff, internal and external, in a polite and professional manner.
  • Assists as needed in the day-to-day operations of the Xanterra, South Rim Livery operation. Including, but not limited to; saddle rides, packing operations, trail maintenance, barn operations and stock maintenance.
  • Assist as needed with guide training and student ride evaluations.
  • Assist as needed with conducting the daily safety orientation to guests prior to the rides.
  • Assign mules to guest riders and staff based on demonstrated and known physical ability, habits and safety.
  • Assist as needed with submitting mule and passenger counts and staff payroll.
  • Assist as needed to determine the number of mules available daily; supervise the loading of mules for the guest rides and respond professionally to incidents and concerns as they arise.
  • Assist the livery managers in monitoring and reporting adverse trail conditions and concerns as they arise.
  • Assist in ensuring that Livery staff follows all safety, risk management policies and procedures as well as Company and/or NPS environmental policies.
  • Oversee and assist with the maintenance and cleanliness of the vehicles, equipment, barns, offices and corrals.
  • Work closely and communicate with the staff at the Bright Angel Activities Desk, Phantom Ranch and the related areas on rider counts, and special requests.
  • Handle guest complaints and concerns in a professional, discreet, and timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum two years supervisory experience in a livery, dude ranch or riding stable operation.
  • Working knowledge and experience with riding livestock, preferably mules and tack associated guest riding operations.
  • Ability to train personnel in handling of stock, safety, and customer service.
  • Ability to interact with guests and staff in a professional manner.
  • Ability to assess the riding skills and abilities of guests that plan to participate in a mule ride.
  • Possess or obtain valid Arizona drivers license and comply with Xanterra South Rim Company Vehicle Policy.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with ability to speak clearly and concisely to groups of people, as well as to communicate effectively by radio.
  • Ability to assess and effectively utilize the stock in daily operation of the livery.
  • Basic veterinary skills in the doctoring of mules.
