Position Overview

The General Manager (GM) of Cedar Cove Ranch is responsible for overseeing all aspects of this multi-faceted hospitality and outdoor recreation destination, including food & beverage operations, guided hunting experiences, event management, and financial performance. This hands-on leadership role requires both strategic oversight of department managers and active participation in daily operations.

The ideal candidate will combine strong hospitality management experience with outdoor recreation knowledge and business acumen.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Department Management

  • Directly supervise and mentor department managers including:
  • Hunting Operations Manager
  • Hospitality and F&B Operations Manager
  • Grounds & Maintenance Manager
  • Lead weekly management team meetings to ensure alignment and coordination
  • Provide hands-on support during peak times and when necessary
  • Develop and implement updated standard operating procedures across all departments
  • Foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and professional development planning
  • Ensure effective interdepartmental communication and cooperation

Hospitality & Food & Beverage Operations

  • Partner with Hospitality Operations Manager to direct all food service and hospitality operations including lodging, dining facilities, and guest services
  • Actively participate in menu planning and quality control
  • Regularly inspect kitchen and dining facilities
  • Maintain highest standards of guest service across all touch-points
  • Ensure compliance with health department regulations and safety standards
  • Review and approve purchasing decisions and vendor relationships
  • Support during high-volume service periods and special events

Hunting Operations

  • Work closely with Hunting Operations Manager to oversee guided hunting program
  • Participate in guide training and safety protocol development
  • Regularly join guided excursions to maintain quality standards
  • Ensure compliance with all hunting regulations and licensing requirements
  • Review and approve purchases and maintenance schedules
  • Oversee game management and habitat conservation efforts
  • Maintain relationships with local wildlife authorities and trappers/consultants

Grounds & Equipment Management

  • Oversee Grounds & Maintenance Manager in maintaining:
  • Vehicles and UTVs
  • Tractors and heavy equipment
  • Power tools and maintenance equipment
  • Hunting and outdoor gear
  • Property infrastructure
  • Roads and trails
  • Fencing and gates
  • Water systems and wells
  • Guest amenities and facilities
  • Develop preventative maintenance schedules
  • Approve equipment purchases and repairs
  • Ensure proper staff training on equipment operation
  • Maintain safety protocols for all equipment use
  • Oversee landscaping and habitat management
  • Direct facility improvement projects
  • Manage equipment inventory and replacement planning

Event Management

  • Collaborate with Hospitality Manager on planning and execution of:
  • Private events and weddings
  • Corporate retreats
  • Hunting packages
  • Provide hands-on support during major events
  • Review and approve event proposals and budgets
  • Ensure proper staffing and resource allocation
  • Maintain high standards of service delivery

Financial Management

  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets for all departments
  • Review departmental P&Ls monthly with managers
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance metrics
  • Implement cost control measures across all departments
  • Oversee payroll and human resources
  • Manage accounting procedures and reporting through expense tracking system
  • Drive growth collaborating with Sales and Marketing team

Business Development & Client Relationships

  • Drive revenue growth through strategic business development initiatives:
  • Develop and maintain relationships with high-net-worth clients
  • Build partnerships with luxury travel agencies and concierge services
  • Cultivate relationships with wedding vendors
  • Represent Cedar Cove Ranch at industry events and luxury travel shows
  • Host property tours for potential clients
  • Develop and maintain client database and communication strategy
  • Create personalized experiences for VIP guests and repeat clients
  • Monitor market trends and competitive landscape
  • Collaborate with marketing team on brand positioning and content
  • Oversee client feedback programs and satisfaction metrics
  • Manage crisis communication and client relations issues
  • Maintain relationships with local community leaders and businesses

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related field
  • 7+ years of progressive management experience in hospitality and ideally hunting ranch operations
  • Experience managing a ranch, lodge, or outdoor recreation facility
  • Proven track record in multi-department management
  • Demonstrated experience in hands-on operational leadership
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and equipment management experience
  • Knowledge of hunting operations and outdoor recreation industry
  • Excellence in team leadership and staff development
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proven track record in luxury client relationship management
  • Experience in business development and revenue growth

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Knowledge of wildlife management and conservation practices
  • Certification in hospitality management or related field

  • Background in luxury hospitality services

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions
  • Capable of walking extensive property grounds
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate ranch vehicles and equipment
  • Physical capability to assist with hands-on tasks across all departments
