PRIVATE RANCH GENERAL MANAGER
Walnut Grove, CA | Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta | Part-Time to Full-Time
20+ Hours per Week | $30–$50/Hour DOE + Sales Bonus

About the Property

We are a private rural ranch property located in Walnut Grove, California, approximately 20 miles south of West Sacramento in the beautiful Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.

The property includes a primary residence, farm operations, a small but growing tree nursery, and hosts a select number of private events throughout the year. We are looking for a talented and versatile General Manager to help us keep everything running smoothly and growing strategically.

Position Overview

The Private Ranch General Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the day-to-day and long-term operational management of the ranch. This person will serve as the owner’s right hand — coordinating contractors, managing projects and
schedules, overseeing events, and supporting a small nursery business. The ideal
candidate is organized, self-motivated, and comfortable wearing many hats in a
dynamic rural property environment.

This position begins as part-time (minimum 20 hours/week) with the potential to grow
into a full-time role based on property needs and candidate performance.

Key Responsibilities

Property & Contractor Management

  • Coordinate, schedule, and oversee contractors for home repairs, equipment maintenance, and capital improvement projects
  • Conduct regular property inspections and create prioritized maintenance punch lists
  • Obtain bids, negotiate with vendors, and ensure quality work is completed on time and within budget
  • Maintain records of all work orders, warranties, and vendor contacts

Project & Schedule Management

  • Project & Schedule Management
  • Track ongoing and upcoming improvement projects from initiation to completion
  • Collaborate with the owner to develop and manage project timelines and budgets
  • Maintain an organized calendar of all property activities, contractor visits, and deadlines
  • Provide regular progress updates and proactively flag issues or delays

Farm & Agricultural Operations

  • Assist with planning and managing the farm planting schedule in coordination with the owner
  • Coordinate agricultural contractors, irrigation, and seasonal field operations
  • Monitor and document crop progress, equipment conditions, and field conditions

Event Management

  • Plan and manage 4–6 private events per year on the property
  • Coordinate vendors, catering, setup/breakdown, and guest logistics
  • Develop event run books and ensure seamless execution
  • Manage event budgets and post-event recaps

Tree Nursery; Small Business Development

  • Help develop and execute a sales strategy for the property’s small tree nursery
  • Identify sales channels including farmers markets, landscape contractors, retail buyers, and online platforms
  • Assist with inventory tracking, pricing, and customer outreach
  • Support the growth of the nursery into a sustainable small business revenue stream

Ideal Qualifications & Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in private estate management, ranch management, property management, or a related field
  • Experience in winery operations, vineyard management, or hospitality/event hosting is a strong plus
  • Proven event planning and coordination experience
  • Strong project management skills — ability to manage multiple contractors and projects simultaneously
  • Budget management and basic financial tracking experience
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with interest in small business sales and development
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Comfortable working independently in a rural environment with limited daily supervision
  • Familiarity with agricultural or nursery operations is a plus, but not required

Requirements

  • Must have reliable personal transportation — property is located in a rural area approximately 20 miles south of West Sacramento
  • Must be able to meet at the property regularly as needed
  • Valid California driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to work flexible hours including occasional weekends during events
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions

Compensation & Schedule

  • Part-time to start: minimum 20 hours per week, with potential to grow to full-time
  • Base compensation: $30–$50 per hour, depending on experience (DOE)
  • Sales bonus: performance-based incentive tied to tree nursery sales success — details to be discussed with qualified candidates
  • Flexible scheduling — this is not a traditional 9-to-5 position
  • Total compensation and hours expected to grow as the role and nursery business.

How to Apply

Please submit your resume via email, along with a brief cover letter describing your relevant experience and why this opportunity interests you. Candidates with experience in winery operations, private estate management, or agricultural sales are especially encouraged to apply. We look forward to hearing from you.
