A private family with an eventer horse farm located in Ocala, FL is seeking a full-time Groom for 8-10 horses. This position reports directly to the Barn Manager. Must have experience handling horses, the ability to lift bedding bags and hay bales. Duties include: feeding, mucking stalls, riding, taking horses out to paddocks & bringing them in.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position, the job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Preparing and distributing feed
  • Grooming tasks, including bathing and tacking procedures
  • Basic first aid knowledge
  • Stable maintenance and stall cleaning
  • Follows safety procedures provided by supervisor.
  • Completes daily and weekly reports for supervisor within the maintenance on the farm.
  • Equine experience is a positive.
  • Maintaining confidentiality regarding principals, guests and day to day activities is essential
  • Must possess a true service heart
  • Ensure that the barn and equipment are always impeccably clean and well maintained
  • Assist in day-to-day tasks if necessary, including feeding and watering horses, cleaning stalls and corrals.
  • Maintain the highest level of hospitality services, always alert, friendly, and able to assist principal and guests politely and promptly.
  • Ensure the highest standards of first aid, safety, sanitation, and personal hygiene are met.
  • Possess a positive and outgoing personality and share’s that in interactions with principal, guests and coworkers.
  • All other duties as assigned.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

ACCOMMODATIONS
This is a Live-out position

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
No education is required. Minimum 2 plus years’ experience working in/with an equine barn operation, farm or similar.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
The candidate must have the ability to speak and understand English, read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The candidate must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
This position requires the operation of a vehicle, candidate must possess a valid Driver’s License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment. The candidate’s driving record must meet the standards and requirements of the Company and the Company’s insurance carrier. CDL license and experience a plus.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Employee must adhere to Company and property policies and procedures, which are included in the Company’s Employee Handbook.
  • Candidate may be subject to undergo pre-employment drug test, (after offer is given but before applicant has commenced work). Random drug tests are given throughout the year.
  • Must have a personal vehicle to travel from location to local town for personal needs.
  • The Company operates as a drug free/smoke free workplace. Smoking is not allowed on the property, to include but is not limited to, company housing, vehicles, offices or on company machines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/ move up to 75 pounds. Operation of loaders, tractors, mowers and other heavy machinery.
