Harper Feeders is a fourth generation, family owned and operated feedlot located in Eaton, Colorado. Harper Feeders feeds sheep and cattle with a capacity of 65,000 head of sheep and 3,000 head of cattle.

• General Overview
  • Members of the grounds crew are responsible for both the general livestock work as well as maintenance and miscellaneous work that presents itself throughout the workday. This work is conducted outdoors much of the time and requires employees to be flexible and adaptable.
• Common Activities
  • Daily Inspection of pens-walk pens to check for mortality, sick animals and structural deficiencies
  • Clean waters daily
  • Box feeder assessments-communication to management about feeder status and/or problems that arise
  • Animal movement for sorting and/or vaccinations (Will be trained on low stress handling methods)
  • Shovel work, heavy lifting, weed maintenance, fencing maintenance, etc.
• Responsibilities
  • Communication with a bi-lingual crew members (or directly to management if capable) to convey any problems or issues found throughout the feedlot regarding livestock, equipment, infrastructure, etc.
  • Ability to work within a team setting or independently
  • Ability to be flexible with daily tasks and duties throughout a work day/period
  • Assist other crew members or management as requested
  • Willingness to learn and be trained
  • Ability to apply knowledge and training to complete tasks and take initiative when opportunities present themselves.
• Physical Demands
  • May be required to lift weights ranging from 30-200 pounds
    • Lift tanks, pick up/handle injured or deceased animals, lift hay bales, etc.
  • Work does continue in all weather so the ability to maneuver wet, icy, snowy conditions as well being able to tolerate working in heat
  • Ability to walk long distances is beneficial in daily tasks
• Work Environment
  • Work in all weather conditions
    • Certain conditions will change the pace of work required as well as the length of work days
  • Heavy machinery and volume of animals can create loud noises at the feedlot
  • Feedlot is kept very clean and well maintained and employees are expected to assist in keeping that standard

Qualifications and Skills

• Simple math skills (adding and subtraction) necessary
• Problem solving and critical thinking skills very beneficial
• Bi-lingual beneficial but not required
• Previous livestock experience beneficial, will train accordingly

Work Schedule

Full Time

• 6 days on-1 day off per week
  • Each employee has a designated day off every week
  • Employees are welcome to work on their day off if they so choose and if enough work can be found for them
• Hours worked per day (Approximate)
  • Fall
    • Start time 6-6:30 a.m.
    • End Time 4-4:30 p.m.
  • Spring/Summer/Winter
    • Start Time 6:30-7 a.m.
    • End Time 4:00 p.m.
  • Every workday includes a 25-minute paid break mid-morning as well as an hour-long lunch period
  • The fall period represents the busiest time of the year for the feedlot and the work schedule follows the increased demand for labor accordingly during that time

Part Time

• Flexible part-time hour options

  • 2-3 days
• Reduced job duties may accompany part time roles

Compensation and Benefits

• $20.00-$22.00/Hour
• Merit based monetary bonus potential
