The W.T. Waggoner Ranch, a historic and renowned estate in Texas, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Quail Hunting Dog Trainer. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of canine training techniques, specifically tailored for quail hunting. This role demands a passion for working with dogs, a commitment to humane training methods, and the ability to foster a productive and harmonious environment for both dogs and associated employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive training programs for hunting dogs, focusing on skills essential for quail hunting.
  • Utilize positive reinforcement techniques to instill obedience, agility, and effective hunting behaviors in dogs.
  • Assess each dog’s abilities and create customized training plans to enhance their natural instincts and improve performance.
  • Conduct regular training sessions, ensuring consistent progress and adapting strategies as needed.
  • Collaborate with ranch staff and manager to provide guidance on maintaining training routines.
  • Monitor the health and well-being of the dogs, coordinating with veterinarians for routine check-ups and medical care.
  • Maintain training records and provide regular updates on each dog’s development and readiness for hunting activities.
  • Ensure all training facilities and equipment are well-maintained and organized.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a dog trainer with a focus on hunting dogs, preferably in quail or similar game hunting.
  • Strong understanding of canine behavior, training methodologies, and the specific requirements of quail hunting.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to instruct and guide dogs and associated employees.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with animals.
