The W.T. Waggoner Ranch, a historic and renowned estate in Texas, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Quail Hunting Dog Trainer. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of canine training techniques, specifically tailored for quail hunting. This role demands a passion for working with dogs, a commitment to humane training methods, and the ability to foster a productive and harmonious environment for both dogs and associated employees.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive training programs for hunting dogs, focusing on skills essential for quail hunting.
- Utilize positive reinforcement techniques to instill obedience, agility, and effective hunting behaviors in dogs.
- Assess each dog’s abilities and create customized training plans to enhance their natural instincts and improve performance.
- Conduct regular training sessions, ensuring consistent progress and adapting strategies as needed.
- Collaborate with ranch staff and manager to provide guidance on maintaining training routines.
- Monitor the health and well-being of the dogs, coordinating with veterinarians for routine check-ups and medical care.
- Maintain training records and provide regular updates on each dog’s development and readiness for hunting activities.
- Ensure all training facilities and equipment are well-maintained and organized.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a dog trainer with a focus on hunting dogs, preferably in quail or similar game hunting.
- Strong understanding of canine behavior, training methodologies, and the specific requirements of quail hunting.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to instruct and guide dogs and associated employees.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with animals.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, maintaining a positive and collaborative atmosphere.
Working Conditions:
