Remote ranch seeks professional, discreet, and experienced Head Housekeeper to oversee housekeeping operations for multiple residences, offices, a barn, and ranch support facilities.  The successful candidate will ensure cleanliness, organization, and guest readiness across all areas of the property.  This individual must possess leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.  The position requires both performance of routine cleaning duties, and management of complex household operations.  The Head Housekeeper manages seasonal staff and reports to the ranch Office Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Residential Housekeeping & Cleaning

  • Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, dining areas, living rooms, offices, and recreational spaces.
  • Dust, vacuum, mop, sweep, polish surfaces and furniture.  Sanitize bathrooms and kitchens.
  • Perform deep cleaning on a scheduled basis:  carpets, upholstery, draperies, windows, lighting fixtures.
  • Ensure kitchens and dining areas remain ready for use.  Maintain counters, cabinets, pantries, storage areas.
  • Organize public closets, storage rooms, and household supplies.
  • Rotate and clean selective décor and furniture by season.  (bedding, curtains, outdoor furniture)
  • Care for fine objects fabricated in wood, marble, silver, and ceramic using appropriate cleaning methods and products.
  • Clean outdoor living areas, porches, patios, and entrances.
  • Clean and maintain appliances:  refrigerators, ovens, stoves, dishwashers, ice makers, microwaves.
  • Empty trash; separate recyclables.
  • Maintain light fixtures, lamps, clocks, and flashlights.
  • Monitor cleanliness of pet-related areas within residences:  kennels, bedding, and feeding areas.

Laundry & Fabric Management

  • Inspect, inventory, and clean fine linens.  Make informed decisions regarding fabric care based upon age, material, and provenance of each item.
  • Launder family and guest clothing in timely manner.  Follow manufacturer’s instructions for care of clothing.
  • Wash, dry, press, steam, and fold linens as specified by product label, or as directed by owner.
  • Hand-wash delicate garments and specialty fabrics when required.
  • Use mangle or flat iron to press sheets and table linens.
  • Manage work flow in laundry room.
  • Plan dry cleaning:  prepare, send out, track, and check returned items.
  • Rotate bedroom linens as seasons change.

Household Operations

  • Observe conditions of buildings.  Report maintenance issues as they arise. (HVAC, electrical, plumbing)
  • Note pest incursions; communicate with ranch team.
  • Stock and inventory cleaning products, supplies, and toiletries.
  • Receive and tend floral deliveries.
  • Maintain cleaning schedules and household cleaning manuals.
  • Communicate progress, needs, or concerns with ranch management team.

Guest Readiness & Service

  • Ensure residences are maintained at a consistently high-level of guest readiness.
  • Prepare family and guest bedrooms with fresh linens and approved amenities.
  • Support events, dinners, and special occasions with set-up and post-event clean-up.
  • Provide discreet, professional assistance to family members and guests.

Staff & Vendor Management

  • Supervise, train, and schedule housekeeping staff.
  • Oversee temporary or seasonal housekeeping help during periods of peak activity.
  • Collaborate with Office Manager, Ranch Manager, Chefs, and other staff to ensure seamless household operations.
  • Coordinate with designers and vendors to maintain and protect valuable furniture, artwork, antiques, and other high-value items.

Ranch Buildings

  • Define cleaning needs of each building.
  • Develop schedule to accomplish needs on daily, weekly, monthly or seasonal basis.
  • Observe conditions of buildings.  Report maintenance issues as they arise. (HVAC, electrical, plumbing)
  • Note pest incursions; communicate with ranch team.
  • Dust, vacuum, mop, sweep, sanitize as needed.

Remote Ranch

  • Travel to satellite ranch as needed to support housekeeping goals as residential and recreational buildings are constructed.
  • Clean and maintain two existing cabins.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 3-5 years professional housekeeping experience in large homes or small hotels.
  • Leadership and organizational skills.
  • Current knowledge of cleaning techniques, laundry care, and use of specialized cleaning equipment.
  • Poise and confidence in handling valuable and delicate items.
  • Proficiency with computers for inventory tracking, scheduling, and communication.
  • Interpersonal skills.  Ability to work independently, and within a team.
  • Understand requirement for confidentiality in conducting work.
  • Pride in executing housekeeping in a professional manner.
  • Flexibility facing changing schedules.  Adaptability as challenges arise.
  • Willing to travel.
  • Physical fitness. Be able to manage demands of a large household.
  • Valid driver’s license.  Reliable transportation.
  • Basic CPR and First Aid (training provided).
  • Pass background check.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Legal to work in the US.
  • Smoking and vaping is prohibited.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation: Pay DOE
  • Benefits available after 90 days.
