Job Summary:
As a Herdsman you’re expected to manage the daily care and well-being of our cattle herd. It will be required that you have a strong background in cattle handling, health management, and pasture management. This role requires you to be hands-on and be passionate about livestock and committed to maintaining high standards of animal care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily care, feeding, and health of the cattle herd.
- Monitor animal health and administer vaccinations, medications, and treatments as needed.
- Assist with calving, breeding programs, and herd health evaluations.
- Maintain accurate health and breeding records.
- Manage pasture rotation and ensure adequate forage availability.
- Operate and maintain ranch equipment including tractors, feeders, and fencing.
- Assist with cattle movement, branding, and sorting.
- Collaborate with ranch management to implement herd improvement strategies.
- Follow all ranch safety protocols and ensure humane handling of livestock.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Requirements:
- Previous experience working with cattle in a ranching environment.
- Knowledge of animal husbandry, nutrition, and herd health management.
- Ability to operate ranch equipment and perform basic maintenance.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Physical stamina to work in various weather conditions and perform labor-intensive tasks.
- Good record-keeping skills and attention to detail.
- Employees are expected to maintain a professional appearance. Visible tattoos, facial piercings, and any accessories featuring nudity, graphic or profane content are not permitted.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with a Seed Stock operation
- Familiarity with rotational grazing systems.
- Knowledge of cattle handling and basic veterinary practices is a plus.
- A valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required).
