Join our team on a 120-acre working horse ranch in scenic western Montana. We’re seeking a motivated, experienced individual for a full-time, hands-on role involving horse training, riding instruction, trail rides, barn management, and general ranch operations, with a willingness to pitch in as needed.

You’ll be the primary caretaker and trainer, responsible for day-to-day horse-related operations of the ranch. The ideal candidate is self-driven, hardworking, and thrives in a ranch lifestyle where days and tasks vary with the season.

NOTICE: This position requires applicants to have experience working with horses. However, prior experience working on a ranch is not required. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable and confident handling horses, regardless of whether that experience was gained in a ranch setting or elsewhere.

Key Responsibilities

  • Train and exercise ranch horses for responsiveness, riding and sale readiness, and safe performance.
  • Start ground work with colts and fillys and develop young horses.
  • Provide lessons for students of all levels.
  • Lead safe, enjoyable trail rides for guests both around the ranch property as well as on nearby mountain trails specifically designed for riding horses.
  • Oversee daily horse care: feeding, grooming, turnout, and health checks.
  • Maintain tack, feed supplies, and a clean, organized barn that meets professional standards.
  • Coordinate with veterinarians, farriers, and suppliers.
  • Assist with fencing repairs and other similar ranch chores.
  • Operate ranch equipment (tractors, UTVs, etc.).
  • Help maintain ranch infrastructure and facilities.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience training and riding horses including starting young colts and fillys with ground work
  • Confident teaching lessons and leading groups on trail rides.
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and organized in all aspects of horse and barn care.
  • Must be comfortable working independently for long stretches.
  • Must understand the rhythms of ranch life — some weeks will be long, others short, and flexibility is key.
  • Must be able to drive and haul horse trailers safely in mountainous terrain.
  • Basic equine first aid knowledge required.
  • Positive, professional attitude with a willingness to pitch in wherever needed.
  • Not suitable for candidates seeking strict 9–5 hours or rigid work-life separation.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary based on experience.
  • Private on-site housing provided.
  • Opportunity for profit sharing.
  • Covered riding arena and 8-stall barn.
  • Quiet, scenic location in western Montana.
