Wanted: Horse Trainer / Ranch Hand

Primary Duties: Care and training of approximately 12 horses of various ages and at different training levels from newborns to finished competition horses. Horses are training toward competitive Reined Cow Horse competition, including reining patterns, working cows on a fence, boxing and roping. The majority of the training will be conducted on your own with periodic check-ins with a professional trainer in the area, providing a chance to continue to advance your skills. This position includes the opportunity to compete and show locally.

Additional Requirements: This is an active cattle ranch. You will assist with all cattle operations as requested including daily herd checks, round ups, administering medication, vaccinations, night calving watch, tagging and new calf care – warming, bottle feeding etc.

Considerations: This is a physical job, performed outdoors a majority of the time. The climate is harsh with extreme cold and short daylight periods in the winter. Hours vary from day to day but will average at least 40 hours per week. Some tasks are required everyday. Close communication and cooperation is required between the Horse Trainer, the Cattle Manager and the Ranch Owners. Maturity, responsibility, personal initiative, anticipation and follow through are all critical to this position.

Experience / Training: Either hands on or formal training programs may have prepared you for this opportunity. Please be able to demonstrate and describe training that you have done with success on horses at various ages. Be ready to provide a written summary of your training philosophy including key mentors.

Personal Qualities: You are an independent, confident, self-starter. You LOVE horses and the ranch lifestyle. You are happy working on your own but also enjoy working on a team cooperatively. You plan, document and evaluate your own work regularly, and are comfortable discussing and adjusting these plans to meet management requirements. You seek out opportunities to learn and improve your skills in many areas. You are a capable and enthusiastic ambassador for your family, team or organization, engaging the public in education and demonstrating your talents and achievements. You have an adventurous spirit, ready to take on new challenges and find success.

Compensation: Pay will be competitive for your level of skill and will include onsite housing and Workers Compensation Insurance coverage. Performance bonuses and other benefits are possible based on your achievements on the job, your energy level and creativity.

Please send you resume and contact information to our email at your earliest convenience. We will continue looking until we find the right fit for this position.
